Home Match Day Thread +++ 25/08/18 OUFC v Burton Albion match day thread +++

How odd. I felt that Burton are maybe a bit like us, try to play football and can be too nice. Not like canny Accrington or cynical Fleetwood

Don’t remember Burton playing any football? Thugs at the back and big guys up top with a bit of pace on the wings.

To be honest there were some silly challenges yesterday that could have got us in trouble (particularly when the ref is a muppet!!)

Smith could have gone for his reaction after being lumped - and again for kicking the ball away (even if it would have been petty). Nelson also looked to dive in recklously in front of the dug outs and Norman looks like he studied Paul Scholes for his tackling!!

When we have players injured and desperate for some consistency, we don't need to pick up unnecessary suspensions.

Nelson was lucky (and particularly given the audible gasp of the home fans) as he’s such a big bloke so when he takes someone out, he really takes them out. Genuinely think he slipped in the greasy conditions though which caused him to carry on and take the player out.

Some fairly slick passing in the first half. They weren’t thugs, just fat! It wasnt really a dirty game despite the refs best efforts to give 100 free kicks

The app he is plugging seems pretty good, think I'm moving from LiveScore to FotMob!

It's a very good app.Covers a hell of a lot of leagues all over the world. Lotsof info available about teams, players and history. Been using it for years and it just keeps on getting better. And free!

Have to say we played pretty well against a poor Burton side who will be flirting with relegation if they keep on like that. Interesting that Robinson's marquee signings of McMahon, Garbutt and Mackie are being outshone by his secondary signings of Whyte, Norman and Smith.

What possible evidence do you have to declare those as primary and secondary?

Mostly Robinson's words when he signed them. The usual phrase was 'one for the future'.
Very well done Robinson and the recruitment team if they can get in the quality of Whyte and Norman as back up. And well done KR for using them (He also said that some U23 would be pushing for the first team).
When Carruthers and Holmes are fit we should have some decent options.

When Easty, Holmes and Carruthers are all fit we’ll start flying. It’s just a shame about the left back situation but I haven’t given up hope that Garbutt will find his feet. There must be a good player in there somewhere. His current form is probably just a ploy to keep his price down so we can snap him up in January.. ?
