So we actually know the shirts not being available yet is all down to Benson?

As @Foley has said I’m sure it’ll be down to getting upgraded sponsorship and the time to negotiate this, plus then wherever we were in the supply chain.

Personally I don’t see any benefit in constantly blaming AB or TW for everything. There may be plenty of things to point at them about but there are some crazy extremes that are totally unjustified at times which are just unhelpful and make some supporters look like a bunch of constant moaners no matter what certain individuals say or do. Not everything deserves criticising (surely?).

Most supporters have never met this Adam Benson and wouldn’t recognise him. Unfortunately it’s impossible to tell whether the various rants about him here are valid or motivated by personal resentment (or both).

It’s easier, and more satisfying, for some to hone in on and regurgitate the negatives rather than the considerable positives.
Championship football and everything good that comes with it? Thats pretty positive. Can’t wait.

As boring as we all may think, shirt releases are part of a wider marketing model and simple things like players being available for photoshoots will be taken into consideration. Players returned a little later than previous seasons and went straight back into a heavy week at the training ground and then straight on to a plane to Spain. I suspect that we'll see things happening this coming week ahead of the first pre-season friendly at City.

They are late with it every year.
So it's not really surprising that it's going to be backend of July then this time round.

Later finish to season, different division, contracts to be agreed on sponsorship, finalise design of shirt with said sponsor on it, sign off design, production, shipping, photoshoots etc.

None of those things are quick jobs and never have been.

Aim is to wear the new home kit for the Southampton home game with it on sale from from the Palermo game.

No idea on the away kit.

Remember it’s also difficult to get fabric in yellow!

None of those things are quick jobs, no.
But you can start them all early, can't you?

Apparently the design was signed off last year FFS. Sorting out a sponsor? The groundwork should be done. If a sponsor only fancies it for The Championship then keep them on the burner and activate upon promotion? There was always a chance we'd be going up.

I can't abide these sanctimonious 'actually, it's more complex than that' posts. It really isn't that hard to do things efficiently. Our kit release is slow, we're behind the curve. Again. It really is that simple.

Let's just hope it doesn't end up being another mock sponsor like 'BG' eh? Whatever it is must be worth the wait...

I BET it’s worth waiting for

Would be very disappointed if we had a betting sponsor

Italy and Spain have banned them and the premier league has taken them off matchday shirts The "Skybet EFL" on the other hand has betting sponsorship splashed all over it like a teenager with Lynx on Boxing Day,

we should learn from Bolton

Bolton Wanderers Chairman Sharon Brittan said: “In 2021, we made the decision to close the on-site betting facilities at the Toughsheet Community Stadium and committed to not enter into any new commercial partnerships or sponsorships with firms representing the gambling industry."

Isn't there a rule where kids replica shirts cannot display a betting sponsor like there is with alcoholic drink companies? The kids kits couldn't display Singha if I remember correctly.

Ah the old 90's Lynx body wash pack. Those were the days. I smelt like a prince for weeks

Unfortunately it is
Can’t see the problem myself, if a company is willing to pay serious sponsorship money then that’s fair enough. Middlesbrough, QPR, Stoke, Sunderland all have betting companies sponsoring, Leeds have an unhealthy drink provider, so what?

Skybet sponsor the Championship itself, I just don’t get the negativity.

I think it’s a combination of a few things. Obviously the fact that there’s a growing awareness of just how much gambling addiction can ruin lives, which Paul Merson talks very powerfully about from his personal experiences. There’s a linked uncomfortable point about how, even in the last year, we’ve seen high profile examples (Toney, Tonali and it looks like Paqueta too) of players with what look to be gambling addicts being made to wear shirts advertising companies making money off their addictions. It’s a bad look.

And then, on top of that, there’s increasingly examples at the top level especially of clubs advertising ‘betting companies’ that seem, at best, to be shell companies, and at worst to be actively illegal in the UK. Phillipe Auclair is a journalist who does a lot of good work exposing this. It’s not the kind of thing I want to see us getting mixed up in.

It looks to be a pretty opaque, damaging and sordid world and one I wouldn’t want us to be promoting. We can’t control what other clubs do but I’d like to think the club I support is better than that.

Who would have thought that the Premier League would make the first move with betting companies being banned as main shirt sponsors from next season?

Fully respect your view. The only thing I would say is that the illegal gambling companies who operate behind closed doors with a smoke screen hiding their activities are the ones who should be exposed, the genuine bookmakers and gambling sites are all legalised and above board etc…

I think it’s up to people what they do with their money and gambling is no different to drinking heavily, smoking or even spending fortunes on designer clothes because people want to promote a certain image, even tho the designer stuff costs little more than cheap clothes brands to make but you pay for a name because it’s advertised and deemed as cool. Energy companies who sponsor teams rip off the public with extortionate prices etc…

So whoever our sponsor is I trust the club have got a good deal and I’m grateful for the investment they make.
