Clotet has lost the plot. Will he last to Boxing Day? Garry Monk has just been sacked at Borough after jumping ship from Leeds. He has good experience but whether we could get him is another matter.
The worry for me is we are allowed to decline and whether we can get new players in January. This squad is woeful and woefully inadequate.
Any chance of promotion in my view is gone this season. I'm more worried that we will be playing Bury and Macclesfield next season

Wigan were superb. Their third goal was tremendous. As was their seventh. I have not seen a more powerful coherent opposition display in years .

But this was compounded by at least four jaw dropping cock ups.

The first goal resulted from an error by the cataclysmic Catalonian, the second goal resulted from us deciding to play musical statues when defending corners, the fourth goal was a complete disaster for Ruffels while I have no idea what Mouisnho was up to for the fifth.

Our dire mistakes plus their top quality performance led to the thrashing.

I don’t blame the back 4 overmuch. We were destroyed in midfield.
Thank God we don’t have to play Wigan every week. They are mustard.

I don’t believe in the instant tin tack culture, Clotet doesn’t deserve the bullet based on our season to date and the injury list has been horrendous.

One game like this could so. easily lead to the slippery slope though. Clotet must earn his money with instant effect. Ledson, Rothwell and Carroll must all start on Boxing
Day.

It sticks in the craw to say this after our record home defeat EVER - but me must try and remain supportive. You can’t hound out the manager based on one game horror show against the runaway league leaders .

It's a totally unacceptable performance and has probably been coming for a while. To be honest I can't see us winning for a while. Confidence needs rebuilding and I'm not sure Clotet can rebuild it.
It would be expensive to get rid but we are paying the price for not signing enough players of quality in this league.
Agree Wigan are class

Just seen Paul Cook’s comments.
He said Oxford set up ‘just the way we like it’, and were one of the few teams this season to try and take them on.
Why did we do this?
Wigan are physically very strong and had pace in every position.
It’s pretty b obvious that you try and keep it tight, and deny them space.
Which we did not do. Ever.
From the first goal, we collapsed.
There was no evidence of any game plan, and we were chaotic.
Tiandelli has recovered after a few dreadful opening games. But he’s still a weak link, and Wigan targeted him from the first minute. But he was no more embarrassing than anyone else.
And why play Xemi against such a physically big team? Carroll or Ledson would have given us more
I only stayed until the end out of curiosity. I genuinely thought they would get 10.
Worst performance since the days of Patto and Kemp.....

DE will not pay off Pep, let alone sign Monk who will probably demand a much bigger wage.

Why ,because the manager decided this was the best way to beat them...sarcasm

I'm speechless.
More gutless than the woeful 0-2 at Hayes and Yeading or the pathetic 'Turkey Turley' 1-3 at Salisbury.
I think you have to go back to the tonking at Histon for a similarly bad team performance; And they were all away matches.
I truly can't recall a worse home showing in the sixty years I have been trudging to the Manor and Minchery Farm.
Aaargh.

Pep is tactically clueless. Lucked our points in most games. Any decent manager would not allow a strong top of the league team to play freely. You would close down, go direct and leave 3 up when defending corners to have a counter attack chance. Naive doesn't even start to describe Clotet. Pathetic and it was coming. I hope I'm wrong but if we get 3 points from next 3 games we will do well. If we do get a win or 3 draws I bet they're lucky!

The weird thing is that passages of play this season have been superb. We have enough ability to be doing a lot better ,Pep seems to have lost the plot at the moment if we have two more defeats surely that will be it.

Rome has been sacked fewer times as he has.

As I’ve said in this thread previously, he’s a good coach but a poor manager. A nice guy Peter Taylor where we need a hell-hath-no-fury Brian Clough.

Desperately missing Appleton too ☹️.

can't wait to see the highlights for this one

I can’t wait to read this week’s Fan’s View assuming Mr Beasley is not too damaged
psychologically after yesterday’s abject humiliation.I really hope he had a good
post match drink!

My dad took me to my first game with Oxford, when we beat Workington at the Manor in the old Div 4. I've watched well over a thousand home, and about 2 hundred away games, since then. Right now, I don't know which Oxford is going to turn up. 7-0 at home? Are you kidding? That's the result of a team that either has now, or will have......big problems ahead. Sorry, but Mr Clotet isn't for me. Not at the moment, anyway.

Cyril Beavon was a lovely man. I knew him personally from the mid 70's on. He had a lovely wife and a son and grandson who made it into pro footballers and another son who got as far as Oxford City. Cyril lived in the flats at Northway and once showed me all the medals he'd won as a player. I was the goalie for a team he was manager of (Northway) in '77. Cyril was a hero for us for ten years. He will remain a hero in my mind, for a very long time to come. God rest your soul, Cyril.

Oxfords best moment of the game. Great save by Eastwood.

As for the rest, well I'm still bloody angry about that shocking non performance. How I made myself stay to the end I don't know.

In Appletons first season I was one of those calling for him to be sacked only to be proved totally wrong.
I've been holding off on calling for Peps head because I was so wrong last time, but I honestly can't see him turning things round and if we all go on like it is we could have a major battle to stay up.

Having supported the U's for the last 60 odd years I have learned to suffer defeat now and again. I don't like it, but I can put up with it. But not that abject humiliation. That was too much! The players tried hard but most were simply not good enough and there was absolutely no organisation in the side whatsoever. It was a collection of geriatric hasbeens and neverwas's with the odd neverwillbe thrown in.

Eight of the starting side were Clotet's signings and nine of the 14 who eventually played were his. This abject shambles of a side was his and only his. He must go and go now!!!!!

On the plus side yesterday, those Wigan boys were bloody brilliant. If they don't win the league there is no justice.

3 Cheers for Wigan....

Utter humiliation yesterday.

Thought we were headed for double figures and I just can’t think of a more shocking display I have witnessed in a long time.

Confidence has to be absolutely shot to bits and I’m afraid I just can’t see Pep having the ability to turn this around, he is just too nice.

Going into the busy Christmas period this could not have come at a worst time. It’s all very well Pep saying it’s just one game and 3 points but I’m far more concerned about the collateral damage.

Pep is becoming a Clot and has to turn this around immediately or otherwise I think he will become the ghost of Christmas past.

For some reason I just couldn’t get the 12 Days of Christmas out of my head last night ?.

Have a great Christmas one and all.. onto Gills ?.

Having thought about what I saw, Pep has to go. I was at Port Vale which was bad enough. But this was another level. Wigan were outstanding, which makes Pep's 'tactics' even more baffling. A Wimbledon mate texted me last week (they lost 4-0 to Wigan at home). He said the only way to play them was deny them space, especially in midfield. And if he saw that, why didn't Pep? Given the ability at the club that has to be the worst performance I have seen in over 40 years of watching Utd. The Pep experiment has failed. Time to go.
