I was pretty annoyed last night with our inability to keep the ball. We’re talking simple passes being 5 yards wide, balls straight out of play, balls in the wrong channels. It looked like a very disjointed second half performance really, and I don’t believe that was due to Derby’s press.

McEachran coming on changed that, as it so often does. He has composure in the middle of the park.

Vaulks needs to be banned from passing backwards.

Idris and Rueben tried far too many fancy flicks and passes when what we needed was composure and time on the ball.

All in all, it shows me just how influential CamBran is for our team. For all of the quality we have, he is still the first name on the team sheet for me.
This. I'm sorry, but that is at least three points lost due to this - and I might be missing some.

Am I just on a different planet to some?

I thought Vaulks kioso Ruben and el miz were the cause of all our problems

Nah, I agree - Kioso looked a little leggy to me last night, his positioning was off, and he was the least effective out of our back four. Blackett-Taylor caused him no end of problems (whereas I don't remember much coming down the other flank at all, all game)

Players tired !!!!???.....they just had an international break!!!
Harris, Kioso, Brown, Leigh and Scarlett were all on international duty. The other players were in training as well for some of it.
Add in the extra intensity during a championship game compared to a league 1 game then yes, I would imagine some of our players who are playing their 1st season in this league are feeling the strain a bit.

Second half looked like a bit of mental tiredness as well, in my opinion.

I think the point being made is that Des becoming unwell may well have had a bearing on our second half performance which was out of character. Get well soon Des. We need you.
They said last night after the game that the team didn't know Des was unwell until they finished so I doubt that.

Couple of people on here complaining about the atmosphere last night; I think it’s simply that the early season ‘cup tie’ anticipation and excitement has subsided somewhat after eleven games and reality has set in; this a tough league and the team can’t always provide the action to rouse the crowd. Having said that, there were periods of quiet from both sets of fans but when the crowd did get going last night we were in good voice, I don’t know how that came across on tv but it sounded ok at the game.

Interestingly I think Dembele needs to step it up a bit. For almost a million I want to see some assists and goals, not mazy runs and crosses to nobody.
I thought he looked better again yesterday after what I felt was a particularly poor performance against WBA, and I thought he set the tone for the first half with his effort having beaten a few players whilst cutting inside. I also thought we looked far less threatening once he picked up his knock near the end of the half. I would agree that he should be trying to beat his man while staying wide more often however.

We were worse for his absence after half time though.
Is that more about the brutal lack of pace in the team without him though?

I’m not digging out a player, I like him lots, but I’m not sure he is playing on the same wavelength as the rest of the team at the moment. That will come.

I had in mind someone said El miz was dead on his feet

I think at the moment our transition through the midfield in to dangerous positions in final 3rd is a-b-c and by the time the likes of Dembele and co are in possession, their respective markers are in a strong position to defend. I noticed the same vs West Brom too…
The solution is Brannagan and Mcechran. Cam can arrow a 50 yard switch pass (a-c) and JM sees a forward pass a split second quicker. Our midfield is too one paced right now. They are good industrious footballers but we lack variety.

Without scrolling through the whole chat, has anything been said about Leigh coming on on the left wing instead of bringing Ebiowei?
I love Greg Leigh but I’d much rather have bought Ebiowei on especially vs his old club. Derby were there for the taking

They weren't though in the second half, they looked more likely to win it. We did well to regain some control towards the end but were still up against it, which is probably why he was chosen rather than Malcolm.

I think it was the right call - to give us some aerial presense in a game that was largely played in the air.

At that stage we'd been under the cosh and I doubt a relatively rooky winger with more limited physicality would have helped to rectify that - whereas the availability of Greg Leigh (and his prodigious leap) to get on any long diagonals from Nelson, Brown, McEachran would at least give us an 'out'.

Fwiw, I think it worked fairly well as we finished stronger (or at least put them on the back foot)...
