My main conclusions were:
Henry played well #whenhenryplayswellweplaywell
Clare played well #clareisanattackingmidfielder
It’s nice to have more and Atkinson doing attacking headers #convertingcorners

Yes you are right. With all the resources that go into a youth setup, it produces remarkably little. We have done well though in bringing in young players from other clubs, developing them and selling on though. Hopefully the increased focus on our youth setup will start to bring more of our own youngsters through.

A good win but let’s not forget that Wigan had won 2, drawn 1 and lost 8 this season before we played them - so they’d lost nearly 80% of all their games - beating them 2-1 isn’t exactly proof that all is well.

But, you can only beat what is in front of you and hopefully it will give the boys confidence. We have to build on this now and get a draw or a win on Tuesday, and then a big win on Saturday... and suddenly all will be well!

Clare was covering in for Sam when he went for the ball. The problem was Sam got nowhere near the ball and watched it sail over his head instead. Clare did nothing wrong as he correctly covered the inside area that Sam had come out from. Clare has got a lot of criticism this season but this wasn't his fault in anyway imo.
He wasn't though , Sam was marking and Clare didn't track back with his man while Long tried to cover both ....great to see Clare further forward and he isn't a defender.

Simon King ( Atkins never played him but had a good carrer elsewhere), Sam Ricketts. Jamie Brooks, Dexter Blackstock, Craig Davies ( he came to us whilst still a scholar) Powelly, Simon Marsh as well as Chris Hackett and Deano. As Mooro will confirm less after funding was cut etc but now the Academy seems vibrant.

We can add Baptiste as he came in as a scholar and we can add Matty Taylor as he came through our youth ranks as is now starring for us. I don't think the players who have come through our Youth system that have gone on to a pro career should be forgotten either so the likes Tyrone Marsh, MIles Welch-Hayes and Alex Fisher should be acknowledged.

I was always told as a defender, midfielder that you cover the inside in such a situation which is what he did. As an aside, the defending from the cross should equally be criticised, which midfielder or defender failed to go with the run of the goalscorer as he was on his own?

Long got held down so couldn't jump. He was too honest and should have gone down like a sack of spuds once he realised there was no way he could get to the ball. Another example of us being too nice and not using the 'dark arts' as other teams do.

Sam did stop he should have made a move with Gorrin dropping into cover for Sam but I’m not excusing Clare, but he did have a good game when he came on.

Exactly, as you point out no real youth product other than Long in a decade +. Hopefully as you also point out hopefully the academy is now more vibrant.

I was more looking at players who have come all the way through, established themselves with us and then moved on.
