Player News 2026-27 Squad Number Watch Thread

Can we send Kent out on a season long loan and recall him in January?

The problem is that if we haven't registered Kent then he's not our player.

Beyond anything else, and especially if the injury rumours are true, I hope that we are looking after him both in terms of treatment and honouring his contract under whatever terms were agreed.

Not necessarily true - Leigh was our player the second half of last season.....we just chose not to register him.

As long as we completed the paperwork for Kent's transfer before the embargo kicked in, then he is our player. If the terms of the embargo prevent us from registering him for next season, there should be no impediment to us loaning him out for the next six months.

If that's the case, if we could persuade them, what is to stop us signing the two decent free agents that were expecting to sign and sending them out on loan. Thomas and Wintle??

I think there's a difference between holding the players registration, and adding them to the playing squad for the coming season.

Leigh was our player, I'm not yet sure if Kent is.

Oh, there definitely is - and my understanding is that we do hold the player's registration but we may not be allowed to add him to the playing squad for next season (because of the terms of the embargo).

If the first part of that isn't true, then the club (and a whole bunch of media outlets) were telling porkies in late June.

Jin Woo is now wearing 7 on his training kit while out in Spain so unless they forgot his stuff it would seem that Mills has gone.
Jin Woo has been wearing 7 for a few days in UK training too. The OM had a piece that said Mills was allocated 7 initially but changed his mind back to 17 because he associated 7 with his bad injury. So a superstitious thing. Not unusual in football but also not ideal timing given all the other noise.

Thanks. Would find this a bit more reassuring if we could see a photo of him from today's training, wearing that number 17 kit though.

No others, as far as I can tell.

There was a Monty Patterson at Ipswich about 8-10 years ago, and there are four current players with the surname Montgomery, but our Monty is unique
We need our own spy in the changing room to let us know whether he should be nicknamed "Python".

I thinkj registering in this case refers to completing the paperwork for his transfer

Golding has 25. Him and Gatlin having pre 30 numbers says a lot about the situation and when it was known about

Not really.

I doubt the kit man was informed prior to the first day back at training that we would be limited to such a small squad due to an embargo. By the logic that we're giving these players lower numbers due to the embargo, why would we have left numbers 19, 20 and 21 available? Also, Golding and Gats are old enough now that leaving them in the sticks with less "serious" squad numbers would be seen as fairly disrespectful, unless they specifically request them.

No conspiracy here.

Added some of the 21s/18s to the original post.
Zaide Took-Oxley pictured in training with the academy so seems to still be about!

O'Donkor wore 19, Golding 25 and Bradney 20 at Aldershot last night.

Suspect Bradney was more about taking an available printed shirt. Gatlin might have been boosted up.
