 2026/27 - L1 confirmed teams

Anyway, I'm selfishly hoping Argyle stay down for a nice local game for me. They're in great form so if they sneak into the play-offs they've a decent chance of winning them.

If neither of those things happen I won't have a nearer away game than the 4hr journey to Oxford, which I don't think has happened before in the 20 years I've been down this way (one of the Bristol teams has always come to the rescue when the Devon ones have not obliged).

I like the relative ‘local’ nature of someone who lives in Cornwall that a 55 mile, 1hr 37 min journey to a game is a ‘nice, local game’!
 
Add Peterborough to the list.

They got the point they needed for survival in a 0-0 home draw with Mansfield tonight.

I'm about equidistant between Plymouth and Truro, so both of them are within an hour or so by train or car. Exeter is more like a couple of hours each way door to door but still easily doable for a day at football. Anything else is a massive slog, even Bristol, but I should have realised that when I moved here! The idea of a league where there is nothing closer to me than Oxford is pretty horrifying though. Having Devon teams to play again would definitely soften the pill of relegation...

We managed to lose 28% of our games the last time we played in League One and our win ratio was only 1.67. And there were really only 2 strong teams in the division that year - Pompey & Derby.

Really don’t think we should take success next season as a given. Lots to happen before then, including a wholesale change in our squad as many of our current squad will be high-earners and a couple would fancy themselves to stay in the Championship.

Maybe it won’t happen but might as well go into the summer with a bit of hope, plenty of time to be disappointed next season.

Not sure that anybody will assume success is a given.
But there is a huge gap between L1 and thd Championship and over the past few years, excluding basket case clubs ( big points deductions etc), circa 25% go back to the Championship automatically and a further 25% make the playoffs offs.
So with some decent recruitment and in all likelihood, the basis of a decent side, we also shouldn't assume that we will be a struggling half way team.

Following the completion of their take-over, it looks like Sheff. Weds. won't be a basket case afterall next season, and they won't start on -15 either.

Yeah, but a southern Top Three, so we can't complain too much.

Probably best if Bolton go up from the League One playoffs.....they're the team with the resources that's almost guaranteed to be challenging next year if they're still in the division. The other three could go either way.....

(though there's a part of me that would laugh if Stevenage went up. Partly because then we wouldn't have to go back there again next year. And partly at the thought of Spurs or West Ham having to travel there and/or 86 Stevenage fans trying to fill up the away end at their stadiums!)

Me too, Plymouth and Exeter are about the same distance for me, I was willing Exeter to pull off an unlikely win today (although Plymouth is easier for public transport so better for drinking and if only one could stay I’m glad it was Argyle.

Yep, I regularly ’nip out’ over half an hour each way for somewhere different to walk the dog.

Mind you I used to drive from Oxford to Bordeaux non stop (other than the ferry) so that’s probably just me
 
It's a shame neither Luton nor Plymouth could sneak into the play-offs, as they looked like two of the strongest teams in terms of form and the strongest squads on paper. Remains to be seen how many of their better players leave in the summer for Championship football, but they'll be contenders next season. Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester will need big rebuilds so could take a while to get going, so a good start could be imperative. These four are the sides I'd be most wary of next season
