 2026-27 - Fixture release day

How come Reading played at Wycombe last August Bank Holiday and TVP didn't stop that this is p**s take.

The p**s take is that football clubs are trying to encourage more families and the youngsters to attend but then you have fixtures being moved to a Tuesday or Wednesday evening during school term time. You then also have these stupid 12.30 kick offs on a Saturday just so Sky can broadcast legally in the UK. These clash with kids grassroots football and gives families am unnecessary decision on what they attend.

Exactly, clubs want more families and youngsters to attend but find their efforts are being undermined by the idiots who haven't left the 1980s and would rather fight than watch the game, with the rest of us suffering as a result of their selfish actions
 
Not sure if it's been mentioned already but there is also a foodies festival on in South Park on the August bank holiday

You make it sound like there is violence every week at games. TVP used to constantly move the games vs Bristol Rovers to early KO's but you rarely ever saw any trouble at a game. In fact, when was the last time we actually saw fighting at the stadium?!

Couldn't agree more there will be one less with us for the Reading game because of it being moved due to school next day.

Maybe not in the stadium but there was fighting in both our last games against reading and also in at least one of the games against Bristol Rovers (if you consider threatening behaviour fighting, which for a lot of passers by it might as well be). There were also violent scenes at Birmingham last season

I am not condoning football violance but I would say that the fact there is only 4 examples from the last 3 to 4 seasons shows that the majority of the time it is safe to go to football with your family and not get any issues. I would also say that 'violent scenes' at Birmingham is pushing it a bit as it was 1 pissed up idiot who got kicked out fairly quickly.

The game is on a Tuesday night because TVP are policing Reading festival that weekend otherwise it would have been 12.30pm on the Saturday. The fact the game was put on that weekend in the first place was a cock up by the EFL.

But there is a recent history of violence between Oxford and Reading, so you would expect a response from the police.

As for the game being played on the Saturday being a cock up by the EFL, are you sure about that? Not the police, whose duty it is to inform the EFL of any potential problems? Considering no one here knows who told whom what, there are a lot of assumptions being made by a lot of people. It may well have been the EFL's fault, but neither you nor anyone else on here knows that for a fact

Whether it is the EFL or TVP who have cocked up, the reason it is now on a Tuesday night meaning it will difficult for some of our younger fans to attend is not down to a few ' idiots who haven't left the 1980s'.

Is there really no one at the EFL old enough to know that Oxford v Reading is a long term potential problem and that cretins from both sides will potentially spoil it for everyone else?
If the EFL had put it on a Saturday in November the worst that could have happened would be an early kick off.

But you can't expect the EFL to know that it would clash with Reading Festival or that TVP would be too short of manpower to oversee both events - that would have to be the police's responsibility to have flagged that when they were shown the potential fixture list a few weeks ago

How can the FL take every single local event into account? Do you know what’s going on in Middlesbrough, Peterborough, Exeter etc every weekend of the football season?

The season Manning saved us from.
League one relegation the Peterborough Mart fair was on which is very close to the stadium ( you can see it from one of the stands) . Doesn't attract the same number of people as st Giles fair mind.

But when were TVP made aware of the fixture? If they had been consulted on earlier down the line they would have had no reason not to flag this to the club. It would appear they have just found out in June when the fixtures are already locked in that they're expected to be stretched across Reading and Oxford on an incredibly busy weekend in August - I'm not sure what else they're expected to do.

Clearly, TVP had plenty of opportunity to flag a Bank Holiday clash as a potential problem for them and request a different date. So either they didn't or the EFL couldn't find a suitable alternative and went with a fixture they knew would immediately get moved.

TVP would have been given a draft fixture list and opportunity to make comments/request changes several weeks ago. They either didn't comment because they didn't realise there'd be a problem, or they did comment but the EFL couldn't or didn't want to make a change. That second scenario seems unlikely given that they found a date quickly enough once TVP made the request. Not ideal as it now gives us three away games on the bounce followed by three home games in a row

Did they pick some of these selections out of a hat? None for a team likely to challenge near the top and with Aaron Ramsey as our manager. Still, can't wait for the mouthwatering TV games featuring *looks it up* Bromley v AFC Wimbledon, Leyton Orient v Wycombe and Burton v Mansfield.

All opening day games are on tv so it must be on one of the main channels.

I don’t get the bit about caraboa cup tirs that have not been picked for being shown still not having the dates and times confirmed till later, they are all on Sky Plus so why move anymore? What was the point of them being at a weekend if they move loads of them for no reason?
