What about Hiram Boateng, leaving MK dons by the sound of his twitter post.

Any news on Baldock and Bodin and can you confirm Gorrin won’t be staying?
Baldock is away so wouldn't expect an announcement before the end of the month. Bodin had agreed a deal as far as I'm aware but also wouldn't expect announcements in the next week or two.

I suspect the rumours about Gorrin going are probably true. Robinson announced that we'd be offering a new deal when he was first injured, but has barely mentioned him since. I imagine it's for all the reasons mentioned, other clubs are likely to offer longer deals and a commitment to more game time. I agree with others that I'd like him to stay, but wouldn't be heart broken if he leaves.

Thanks Scotchers

Sam can’t have gone for long then, he’s opening the new MUGA centre in our village rec tomorrow afternoon.

Gorrin is criminally underrated on here by some. Yes, he's somewhat limited in possession, but he is one of, if not the, best defending midfielder in the league. His ability to make interceptions, blocks and just generally break up opposition attacks is brilliant, and we hugely missed him this season. 433 with overlapping full backs and two attacking midfielders works, but only if you have a very good holding midfielder like Gorrin.

I tend to agree with you but I do think Gorrin was at his best with us when he first signed, he was undroppable then but some of his later performances - before the injury - were a bit flat and listless.

I’m a bit mixed about him, happy for him to stay but wouldn’t be too gutted if he moved on.

I’ve noticed this is just how some people cope with losing a good player! Pan them relentlessly to help soften the blow… but then if he stays the narrative becomes ‘oh, well there are some positives in him staying’ 😂.

I agree with you. Not sure I’d go quite as far as saying he’s the best in the league because I think to be on that bracket you require consistency and sadly, due to injury, he’s not been able to demonstrate that in the last couple of years. But no doubting his ability and how much of a better team we are when he plays. But that ultimately may be why we need to move on from him because as you say, his role is imperative to our game plan so we can’t afford to go half the season with a make-shift alternative. It’s a specialist role and the best players in that position are the ones who love defending and unselfish on the ball. Our other midfielders don’t fulfil that criteria.

Had he been available all season at his best, I have little doubt we would be 8-10 points better off which would’ve at least secured another run at the play offs.

Few seem to be talking about Smyth who I think was brought in to do this job long term. Could he have a McNally-type breakthrough next year?

I think Gorrin stands out as he's the only midfielder we have who is defensive minded. His first thoughts are to take up sensible defensive positions and secure the ball, which he's very good at. Beyond that he definitely has his limitations. He often stunts attacking moments by swiveling and going backwards and sideways, and can't consistently pass the ball further than 15 yards. I don't mind that because he's been a vital platform for the rest of the midfield to build on, but I don't think I'd go as far as saying the best DM in the league... that title would surely belong to those that can win the ball and progress it up the pitch.

He gives away too many fouls and gets too many bookings, it seems to me. Still want him to stay though as we appear to struggle to make practical signings beyond the marquee ones.
