Why does no one like us??Eoin Toal…Bolton
Why does no one like us??Eoin Toal…Bolton
You thought we were getting Partey on loan?
Yep, we have 16 first team players in, just as we did for the most part many weeks ago.Derby had 5 players!
So they had brought in 3 by Friday making it 8?
I would imagine that they will make a number of signings after the season begins.
In contrast we have what 16 first team players in the building.
I hope it wont be the usual midnight pounce for anything left over on deadline night.
I wonder if we have an image problem? Oxford isn’t a big historic name, we have a shonky incomplete ground on the edge of town in a city that’s not a football hotbed, and a batty manager. Not sure how much we can do about that. Permission for the new ground would help I think.Nicky Cadden would have been a fantastic signing and a perfect fit for us - despite some of the backtracking on here now suggesting otherwise.
It is doubly concerning that he has signed for Barnsley. I could have accepted it more-so had he ended up at Preston perhaps but another League One promotion challenger (Sheff Wed or Ipswich apart) - that is galling.
For this type of established player, are we still considered to be the next rung or two down the ladder? Part of this Top 30 thing is surely attracting this calibe of player in order to make the next step. If we're not, we won't (unless we get luck(ier) in the playoffs perhaps)?
Look, I know I've got a hard-on for the guy and things might still fall into place elsewhere, but whichever way you dress this up it's massively disappointing. We're not talking about missing out on galacticos to Real, its talented young upper League One players to Barnsley.
Yes, we have made great strides in our recruitment, and we're great at finding rough gems or developing higher talent via loans, but for me the missing part of the jigsaw is quality players excelling at or around this level, in their prime, fit and ready to step in and make a noticeable improvement. When was the last time we recruited of this nature? Matty Taylor perhaps - and even then it was loan first and an obvious existing connection.
It's a competitive market, of course. But we're one of those competitors.
I'll get slammed for saying this I'm sure, but the frustration is that we're getting so close to being at that level - and it's concerning that we can't seem to make that breakthrough.
There is still plenty of time.
You are ploughing a lone furrow I feel. The majority on here simply refuse to accept that there is any problem in us failing to land our key targets time and time again.Yep, we have 16 first team players in, just as we did for the most part many weeks ago.
Regardless of Derby's position, they had targets lined up, in readiness to pounce, just as we alledgedly did, the difference is that they are bringing players quickly due to the lack of time before the season starts, and for them all to familiarise themselves with each other.
All this whilst Oxford wait for a transfer window to open somewhere for one player to possibly join.
I hope it wont be the usual midnight pounce for anything left over on deadline night.
One of three players to turn down OUFC in the last 36 hours alongside Nicky Cadden and Darragh Burns, apparently. If Bolton up their bid for Toal over the next few days then they should get that tied up fairly easily. Although I suppose there’s always a chance until pen meets paper…Eoin Toal…Bolton

Even St Pat’s who Burns has left to sign for MK Dons have got a technical director who handles the nitty gritty in terms of transfer business. We really need somebody in that role.
Maybe I'll wait and see where we are at the end of the season and see how many games we've won and how many games we've lost to decide how good or bad the season has been.

Maybe that is the problem if, as has been suggested, Robinson runs everything? He can’t be everywhere at once. Add to that his apparent unwillingness to fly and nipping over to Ireland is never going to happen. Other clubs that delegate better and with better infrastructure in place will always have the edge.Wanderers have bid rejected for Northern Ireland defensive prospect Toal
IAN Evatt has had an offer turned down for Northern Ireland Under-21 international Eoin Toal, according to local reports.www.theboltonnews.co.uk
Doubt Oxford will get out to talk to Toal as is suggested Bolton will do in the piece. Seemingly recommended by Doyle also - by that logic, McNally, Smyth etc should be tapped into. Especially as the st pats team is loaded with talent in Sam Curtis, Joe Redmond, Adam O’Reilly.
Burns especially wouldn’t have cost a lot to get out of st pats, even in January.
Think we’ve both been banging the same drum for a while - Liam sweeting the perfect example at this level. Financially we can outgun MK - must be breaking down elsewhere.
Not like burns/Toal are unknown…along with Balmer, Redmond, Lyons there’s plenty of stand out talent in LOI etc we could have moved on earlier.
( we better get KR out to Gibraltar quicker before larne start their conference league qualification tonight!!)
Wait to see what materialises!
Maybe we are after better ? Let's not panic we have been signing some real gems for a long time now. But a signing would be good.
Did you read ryaniobirdios post?
We are after these players and missed them
