General 2021/22 New Kit Thread

Thought I'd start a thread for the new kits. It's the third year of a three year deal with the current supplier and these are the templates available to clubs at the moment on the suppliers website: https://www.pumateamwear.com/product-category/jerseys/?query_type_color=or&filter_color=navy,yellow

Last season, we had the same template as so many teams but as we're not in a position to have bespoke kits done for us that'll probably happen again. I'd love an Adidas kit next time the club can change supplier.

Personally, I'd like to see a return to navy/dark Oxford blue socks and this kit as I like the button collar as something different: https://www.pumateamwear.com/product/puma-final-jersey-cyber-yellow-spectra-yellow/

However, that's £22/£30 wholesale so after branding there won't be much profit if they keep the retail price at 40 quid so probably unlikely.

As for the away kit, we've had white for a few seasons now. We've never had a green away kit so I'd like to see a British Racing Green away kit as a nod to Oxford's motor manufacturing history!

I always find it a little odd we always seem to be one of the last teams to launch their kit, my prediction this year is an unveiling in the third week of July.

I often find all these kit templates abit boring because every team that has a kit supplied by puma seems to be the same just different colour and badge I would like something different something interesting
You could have your wish of the new owners come in and decide to use a random Malaysian supplier. Thohir is responsible for Malaysian state owned businesses after all!

Is the 3 year deal not up? We have now had puma kits for 3 years already so would we not be looking for a new deal whether that be with Puma or another supplier? My preference would be Adidas or Umbro if they were to do us retro style kits rekindling the shirts they made for us between 85 and 89

I thought this too, but they're not selling off all the puma stuff in the club shop so assume we must still be in contract.

TBF Puma have been pretty good. We've had a lot worse. Umbro, Macron, and Hummel are supplying better kits though.

Good point, we have. But as has been said, the non-kit puma stuff isn't on sale so its unlikely we'll have a different supplier if that's anything to go by. Screenshot_20210606-172051_Google.jpg

I love what Tranmere have done this year. Not only have they already launched their new kit but they also involved the fan base to choose it and design it. They've got themselves a good looking kit that will sell well. It's not rocket science.

The away kit 2 seasons back and the white 3rd kit both sold out very early, and we've also had increased sales of the home kits (and orange away kit). So we're also doing pretty well.

Interesting the Indonesian sports brand being able to do custom rather than template designs (their shirt for Bhayangkara FC looks good - https://www.mills.co.id/products/mills-bhayangkara-fc-pre-season-home-jersey-1068bhfc). If only we had any Indonesian connections....
"The kit has been manufactured by Indonesian based sports brand, Mills Sport, who also work with the Indonesian national team. Their ability to produce a shirt to our exact specification rather than working with templates, was key to making the design competition work. "

edit, their goalkeeper jerseys are also quite special.... https://www.mills.co.id/products/mi...team-jersey-gk-away-player-issue-1021-gr-navy
edit 2, I would def go for their Indonesia national team 3rd shirt as an away kit - https://www.mills.co.id/products/mi...-team-jersey-third-player-issue-1019-gr-black

Scotchegg - Couldn't it be better though in terms of kit design and fan engagement??
I think it would be great as long as you can have a kit manufacturer to do it well. The quality of the final 20 designs for Tranmere are surprisingly good - the one that tried to incorporate a map of the peninsula in the design was especially clever (though not entirely clear what it is at first glance)

At least they're not Carlotti *shudders*.

I think generally with kit manufacturers it's a trade off between cost-effectiveness & reliability and getting a custom kit made. Sure, they're nice and all, but there's so much extra legwork and money that goes into making bespoke kits.

If a supplier is too big they won't create custom designs for lower league clubs, and if the supplier isn't big then there could be question marks about quality, reliability and cost per item. Also our deal with Puma allows us to stock the club shop with other Puma-branded items like the leisurewear clothing.

Puma is world-recognised brand too, which can help the club grow better in international markets than if we made the kits ourselves or chose a brand no one's heard of (probably not by much, but it'd help). And with them now providing the balls for the EFL, it makes a tiny bit more sense to stick with them.

All in all I think it's not perfect, but it's a decent enough trade off.
