Home Match Day Thread +++ 2/10/18 OUFC v Luton Town +++

Yes, lots of memories of "a bit of needle between the fans".
A bit of needle on the pitch from our lads wouldn't come amiss, as in a bit of passion and professional pride.

At last a home win in the league this season, in front of a crowd of around 7500....close run 3-2 with all 5 goals in the 2nd half, our 3 shared between our squad players coming on off the bench

Feel quite confident about this one, 1-2, Mousinho has to be dropped after poor display against Wimbledon, bring Dickie back in. Mousinho has been at fault for atleast 8 goals this season now by simply losing his man, slipping over or being too weak.

Mitchell
Norman Dickie Nelson Garbutt
Hanson Baptiste
Henry Brannagan Holmes
Whyte

Bench: Stevens,Mousinho,Long,Ruffels,Carruthers,Obika,Smith

Holmes&Hanson goals

7800 attendance

KR needs to show some balls and drop the captain and play Brannagan further forward. I would go with a different approach and try Whyte uptop, someone who will pressure Luton's CB's and hassle them, and is quick enough to punish a pass that is astray. Also leave a man forward on corners? allow the quick break because we continuously get stuck because we bring everyone back and can't get it forward.

Good luck everyone - this ain't going to be pretty (unless pretty awful counts)
Having basically trashed him in the forum last week, Robinson has to put Stevens on the bench because Shearer drops his Ovaltine and burns his foot.
McMahon starts, with Norman back on bench & Long not in the 18 in another game of right-Back roulette
Raglan comes in from the cold too, alongside Nelson in the middle
Garbett and Ruffels share the left side positions, although no-one can truly determine which of them is at left back and which left midfield, as when Robbo points one of them forwards, SD immediately points him back again.
Contrary to popular belief, a new formation sees a sweeper playing behind the two defensive midfielders, leaving 16 year old Slavi Spasov playing in behind Rob Dickie up front.
The bench consists of Holmes, Whyte, Browne, Henry, Hall, Duffy and Rob Green, brought in on loan at the last minute with Stevens ordered to leave the bench and put his school uniform back on by KR just before kickoff.
Danny Hylton cannot believe what he sees of his old club and immediately puts in two own goals to try to help, however parity is soon restored with Oxford showing they watch and learn from other games on the TV over the weekend scoring one own goal from a throw in and a second with a 50 yard backpass. The game continues at 2-2 until KR pulls a tactical masterstroke by bringing on three right sided midfielders in the 87th minute adn pushing Mitchell up front as an emergency centre forward.
Attempting to explain away the 5-2 home defeat, KR is quick to decry the selfishness of the players that have gone out on loan, the lack of dedication of those in the family section for not turning up for a night game and David Langan for setting the bar so high as a full-back that none of his players can live up to the pressure of following him in that position.
ASked for his comments after the game JAck Stevens is dragged away from the interviewer by Faz who instructs him to get back to cutting the grass with his teeth before going home as he is training with the U7s in the morning.
Two Luton squad members hide in the stadium and claim political asylum rather than have to go back to Bedfordshire

Not bad but @amershamdave you ain’t

Oxford United 1 (Whyte) Luton 4 Att: 7998 and 1009 Hatters fans. The nightmare is here. We will start the game brightly. Not because of the new floodlights, but because we'll score after 4 minutes, with a goal-of-the-season contender from Mr. Whyte. KR will rub his hands with glee, proclaiming that we're back and promotion is a certainty. They will equalise after 9 minutes and KR will say there's still a chance of the play-offs. 25 minutes in and it's 2-1 to Luton. KR's thinking a mid-table finish is "definitely on, so don't keep pestering me". On the 40 minute mark, they get a penalty and KR shouts abuse at the ref, questioning his parents' marital status. He is shown a yellow card and reassured that Mr. and Mrs. referee are, indeed a married couple. Penalty coverted; 3-1. After 1 minute of added time, they score another and it's 4-1. At half-time in the changing room, KR punches Eastwood on his nose claiming this season's calamities are due to him injuring his finger earlier this season. The second half starts with us attacking the East Stand....and KR attacking a fan for calling him a failure. We have 32 shots in the second half, some of which go high, wide and not very handsome. KR is pulling his and Derry's hair out and has to be restrained by the police. A dog then runs onto the pitch. The scoreboard malfunctions, the directors' box collapses, the floodlights flicker on and off and Derry announces that he's had enough of all this load of B*****s and resigns. KR is carted away by the police after making a rude gesture to the ref. That just about does it for me.

2-2 Henry and Holmes for us in a tough game

Oxford 1 Luton 2, might as well go for the obvious one, Holmes with a late consolation and our first shot on target after we have 65% possession but do nothing with it, Robinson to complain that he didn’t get manager of the month in post match interview because the players let him down.
