Ooof. BIG 3 points.
How bad was Dembele first half?
I was begging Rowett to give him the hook as he looked so off the pace. He wasn’t alone as we struggled to muster a valid threat. Shemmy shackled and Harris unable to win ball or make it stick.
Thankfully we have one of the best goalies in the championship between the sticks. He was our saving superman once again.
But, cometh the hour their guy gets his marching orders and it’s game on.
Sparky gets felled and the ref puts whistle to gob
Wait a minute, he hasn’t blown and there’s Dembele, he Takes a touch and curls it into the far corner.
The place erupts.
I don’t think we could all quite believe it.
He had had a bit of a mare but there he was peeling away.
Then the noise started. Glorious support
7 minutes of added time? f**k off ref!
What the hell? South stand uppers and North stand Nobbys on their feet singing the boys home.
What a fabulous 3 tiered cake fashioned from a pretty poor display.
3 lovely points.

Final thought on today - although he doesn't dominate games at this level the way he did in League One - we are so much more solid when Cam's in the team.

For as good as he was for 70 minutes on Wednesday, Matos then dropped clangers for both of the goals because he was out of gas.....something that never ever happens with Brannagan (not saying he never makes mistakes - but his engine never seems to run down). And I think Vaulks plays better when he's got Cam alongside (he was absolutely terrific today).

If they're both fit and available, I'm just writing Vaulks and Cam onto our teamsheet for the next eight games already. With Matos getting occasional games in front of them against the top teams (maybe Boro, but definitely Sheffield United and Leeds)
Totally agree. Brannagan is still hugely important to us ( had he played Wednesday, it is pretty unlikely we wouod have lost in my view).
Thank goodness he was fit to play today.

Hugely important win. What a relief to end that horrendous run.

The lineup set the tone and we started the match with much more intent and pressure. Hopefully Rowett now accepts that's the way we're going to pick up the requisite points, rather than sitting back for 90 mins and relying on throws from the halfway line to create chances.

I thought the defence all had good games (shout out to Ter Avest who I thought was a big improvement on Kioso's recent performances). Dembele had a game of two halves, poor in the first but played with much more determination in the second and finished his chance well. Special mention to Goodrham who I thought was excellent - very industrious and showed a willingness to get on the ball and make things happen. Hopefully a sign of a return to form.

We can do this! COYY!

Yeah, I don't think we're going to see Romeny for a few games after today.....at least in the starting lineup. He was anonymous, and we immediately picked up when Tyler replaced him.

Reckon it'll be Placheta-Tyler-Dembele behind Harris against the weaker teams, and Placheta-Matos-Dembele/Tyler behind Harris against the stronger teams going forwards.

Vaulks-Brannagan behind them.

The biggest question is what happens at the back. If Greg Leigh is back in time for Boro (as it sounds like he will be), we'll have a lot of decent options for the back four, even without our skipper.

Dembele was poor first half but still miles better than romeny. Placheta, dembele and goodrham are the 3 players we have that can create something so fingers crossed they play and produce in our remaining games

We could do with QPR to be on the beach by the time we play them. Wednesday definitely will be. Sunderland could well be resting players by the time we face them. Those games against mid table teams or play off certs are real opportunities as a season is concluding.
They have certainly been playing like it- 4 losses out of last five is it

Wouldn't say he was anonymous. He produced some good touches and flicks. Goodrham came on against a tired defence who then went down to 10 men and then Watford decided to sub their best player so not comparing like to like. Great to see Goodrham back with his energy though but a bit dramatic to say we won't see Romney for a few games after today.

On the point of Dembele, he looked quite emotional after scoring and it was telling how all the players got around him to celebrate.

It was very much like when Murphy was getting grief from the fan base and then scored, the whole team celebrated with him.

We’ll play 3 CBs against Boro, surely? Helik in the middle, with Nelson and Brown either side of him, and then Leigh and Ter Avest as wing backs.

Would be really surprised to see the same line-up as today away at a top 8 side, especially as we’ll have (hopefully!) more round pegs for the round holes than we had at Norwich.

First match I've been able to get to this year - so pleased I did. Really scrappy game but who cares.

Our defenders didn't win as much in the air as they normally do, not sure if that's missing Moore or just some big units in that Watford side.

Sometimes wondered what you had to do to get a foul out of that ref, then he suddenly plays a fantastic advantage.

Crowd were superb after that, even SSU and North stand - couldn't believe it. Buzzing.

Still think we'll stay up 😊

Maybe.

I don't think you can play Placheta in a five-at-the-back system. He's a proper winger, but not a wingback (as he showed in the first five minutes at Norwich!). It's two from Tyler/Dembele/Romeny/RR/Matos (depending how aggressive you want to be) behind Harris.

Rowett may do that, but I think it would be a shame as I still think Cheese is our 'most likely' to create something against the good defenses in this division (even if his major contribution today was getting their guy sent off.....Dembele should probably have scored from his cross early in the second half though too)

Only downer on the day was the time it took to get as far as the mini works roundabout , horrendous.

Soon as Dembele scored chap next to me said 'bet the sponsors give him man of the match',

So relieved with that result, especially the way other teams have picked up a bit.

Also glad there's a break till the next game

No streaming site is working so it might be the feed from the stad

I dunno - you think Derby, Stoke & Cardiff are all going to pick up half the points they have remaining? Or Luton will win 5 from 8, or Plymouth 6 from 8? Because that's what it'll take to go down with 50.

It's hard to predict with so many teams involved, and so many games remaining, but right now I'd wager 48/49 will probably be safe. Couple more wins and we should be good.
Which games are we going to win?

A big win which is most welcome and needed, especially with Derby, Cardiff, Luton and Hull all picking up points.

I felt our players really worked hard and the defence deserved their clean sheet. I thought it was a fairly poor game in terms of quality play. Watford didn’t look like a team challenging for the playoffs, perhaps we stopped them playing and dragged them down a bit?

Lovely finish from Dembele, however how he got motm ahead of Brown, or Ter Avest was a ridiculous decision in my view. In fact Dembele was pretty poor up until he scored, but goals win matches…

Watford weren’t the tallest side and it was noticeable that we went very direct at most opportunities, long throws and launching free kicks from the halfway line into the penalty area area, not pretty but needs must.

It felt like the sending off changed the game, silly from their left back to pullback Placheta when already on a yellow, needless and naive, but as the great Barry Davies once said “quite frankly who cares”.

Cumming very assured, Harris worked his socks off, Goodrham also caught the eye for his small cameo.

The other thing to say is Watford’s triple substitution in which to my mind they took off their 3 best players. Strange.

If I’m being greedy I’d rather have beaten Hull and lost today, but any win is most welcome.

The blockages on lanes/roundabout are horrendous, think they actually cause more issues
