Home Match Day Thread 15/02/25: Championship - OUFC v Portsmouth

That was absolutely horrendous and as bad as pretty much anything under Des when you consider how poor the opposition were too. The last 15 minutes showed how they could be got stand really we should have a point, Phillips's and in particular Mills' misses were shocking

We picked up points early on under Rowett but generally against crap teams and we relied on some screamers and defenders for our goals. I still think we'll stay up because there are a lot of teams below us who'll be taking points off each other every week but we've got next to no goal threat about us and are going to come up against teams who will put us under a lot more pressure defensively across the run in. One goal scored in five now, and that was a cross and now it looks like Leigh, our joint top scorer, is injured. I'd still take 21st now.

On the plus side on the pitch Mills and Romeny contributed and should start next match.

Really pleased to hear that the fan in the North Stand is stable, puts football into perspective.

For some reason I am feeling a little bit worried about this one and have this fear that Murphy will cause no end of problems. I really hope I’m wrong and my negativity is misplaced.

This game is absolutely huge and we could really do with the boost of bagging all the points today.

Hoping for a great atmosphere, a dogged performance and a pleasing result.

I don’t want to jinx it, so I’m not even going to call the result today.

COYY’s

Hopefully there will be stewards near the new path to help control Murphy if he gets out of hand.

Ideally we’d get 4 points from the next four and maintain the gap as much as possible. Seeing as we’ll be underdogs against three playoff chasers in the next three after this, a win would be very nice to keep things comfortable.

Their attack is far stronger than their defence, hence the disparity between their home form on the front foot and away form on the back foot. We need to go after them like any other Championship side would at home, Rodrigues in the 10, plenty of licence for Leigh to get forward. Both teams score today, so need at least two.

Hopefully this doesn't turn into the 'Murphy Show' he done well for us for the final quarter of the season, he will get a light hand clap of acknowledgement for what he did for us at Wembley nothing else, we all know what happens when a pantomime villain plays against us, I will be focusing on giving my total support to our team to get a hard thought win! 3-1 Oxford. COYY!

The majority of people on this thread in the face of the might of Portsmouth, a team with a worse away record than even ours. Incredible and perplexing negativity.

What will the thread for the match against WBA, be like? I dread to think.

Nothing to do with form, since the demise of STFC mosh of our feisty matches in the past 3/4 years have come against Pompey home and away.Wycombe, Cheltenham and MK games are meaningless regards rivalry but Pompey are the nearest real derby we have these days.
Always close games one goal will decide it.People will be worried about Murphy because we saw how good he could be.
The other thing our fans worry about is who will score our goals?

Yes of course we shouldn’t fear Pompey, play as we did v Blackburn and I’m sure we can conjure a goal or two from somwhere.

But I fully understand why fans are concerned, me included

I would too if it wasn’t for the fact that these people worrying are completely ignoring their away form and our home form under Rowett.

We have scored 10 goals in the last home games so we can and do score goals.

We didn’t score at Burnley but they have the best defence in the league, we didn’t score at Derby but that was mainly due to the fact that we set up to get a point.

Finally, it’s not and never will be close to being a derby match.

Swindon and Reading are our only rivals.

I am hating myself for allowing any element of concern... maybe it's just the Murphy factor and players of our past coming to stick one on us (last time ... Sykes)

It is also a huge game and I am probably just a little more nervous than I was with Burnley away.

I seriously hope that after this game you come back on here all tell us all to get a grip, after a thumping 3-0 win.

I'll take any abuse you want to throw my way :)

Pompey isnt a derby...end

I am a bit worried about today, where are our goals going to come from, not confident with Harris, wingers are scoring really
Murphy will cause problems whichever side he’s on, I’m not convinced defensively with either PK or Greg
