+++ 14/7/18 Oxford City Vs Oxford United and Hampton & Richmond Vs Oxford United +++

A muppet like me, and you spend half your time in conflict with people over the lack of strikers. That must make you the ultimate muppet beaker I guess. Thanks for singling me out by the way.
Funny that, I thought a forum was the place to give opinions in a jovial way.
I'm guessing you have blocked me as I called you a muppet and Bazzer was merely quoting me! But don't stress, it's just my jovial way of expressing despair at your constantly negative stance.

I am not saying we shouldn't have a decent squad.
KR has however suggested that he wants a smaller squad with U23s pushing. You Can't have an U23 squad with none pushing for the first team in my view.
Now I reckon we have what 18 first team players including Napa Carroll and Long.
That excludes Stevens in goal.
So another 4 would give us 22. If you are excluding Napa, Carroll and Long we need 7. Are you suggesting that Napa Carroll and Long should not be considered part of the first team squad?

Exactly

Also at the Hampton game and pleased to see new signings like Samir and McMahon building a partnership...we were a bit threadbare up front however compared to the other fixture but we know that already.

And so I should be, and if the truth be told you look on here and other social media sites you will see I’m not alone in harping on about the lack of strikers, and if you can honestly hold your hand up and say you have been totally satisfied with strikers we had last season and the one we have at present then yes you are a muppet.

OK, four more sounds possible, though it sounds like Little and a couple of the youngsters may get into first team contention too

Not surprised you were threadbare on strikers he was at Oxford city being supported by a young Owen James.

I went to both. IMO Little and Norman combined well on the right side. McMahon & Sami, impressed, Canice C was off the pace and lost in midfield, Dejon Williams, had good chances but didnt convert, not going to make it, Nappa looked dangerous, M Doughty, sweet left foot, Luke Garbut, quiet game. SD read the riot act @ half time. SD, confirmed more signings to come. Interesting times.

I thought Dejon Williams scored

b****r, you are right, I was running late, but he did miss a number of decent chances and touch wasnt grt. I sry for being harsh, but I cant see him developing into a player we will want to kept...but what do I know? Nothing. @mooro over to you Sir.

Forgot to say Cameron B bossed the midfield vs OCFC. Was I pleasure to watch him at work, up close and personal, so to speak. I can see why LFC rate him so highly. I feel we are lucky to have him. He will not be here long.

KR gave Cam Norman a lot of "advice and encouragement", especially reference getting in crosses. He will need time to step up. Tony McMac at right back looked very professional vs. HRFC. Good pro to learn from. I am more than hopeful for 18/19.

On the contrary Noel-Williams played the sole striker role quite well. He’s got a lot of strength but still very raw.

A lot of players well off the pace. Hampton looked further up the preseason curve than us.

It was a very comfortable win agains Oxford City yesterday, and there was quite a few standout performances...

Obika looked very hungry and caused problems the entire time he was on the pitch. He's got all the tools, I just hope he can bring it all together on a consistent basis this season.

Cameron Norman grew into the game and in the second half was a real threat down the right. Sounds like we've got some good competition there between him and McMahon.

Little looks to me like he'll be a first team player (although he was played out of position on the right).

Owen James looked a handful, but did seem to tire early. Baptiste looks like he could make a real challenge for the first team at some point this season.

It's pretty obvious that we're probably two strikers short. I also think we need another winger, and a bit more experience in centre midfield (maybe this will be Doughty?).

or even Brown

Obika looks to have shed a few pounds. Looks more mobile than last season.

A few comments in the thread re Obika ... for me he did ok (missed lots of great chances) against a poor defence, looked the same Obika = just isn’t good enough for league one. Hope he proves me wrong ... well actually I hope he doesn’t get the chance because he’s at best our third striker (preferably fourth - I’m forever he optimist). PS I thought Sinclair had a good game for City - very capable.

Having just played opposition from the 6th tier we step up a level on Tuesday with a game against Aldershot. Looking forward to seeing what Gavin Whyte can do.

Thoughts from City game
Brannagan - top notch midfielder
Jones - too light weight with a surprising lack of pace - hope a one off but will have to improve significantly to make the grade
Norman - a big unit - did ok but caught in possession a couple of times at the wrong end of the field ( our pen area ! )
The young lad who replaced Jones upfront - raw talent who given time could be one to make it - at least trys to win headers, more than our friend Obika
Baptiste - not bad.
Little - too early to shout - still green

Without stating the obvious re lack of forwards - we need to inject a bit more pace into the side - so the Irish lad maybe a bonus to this.
