14/03/2026 - MDT: Oxford United v Charlton Athletic

My take on the game

I think it felt like a defeat in the end i know we got a point but we were so close to all three

Jamie cumming has been a great player for us but sometimes he makes you scratch your head against Blackburn he nearly cost us and I guess today he did cost us

Bloomfield' substitutions were so defensive it was shocking

Charlton were not a bad side quite good at what they do I suppose

First half was like we'd gone back to our usual self's before we started the winning run

Bit pissed off with that today we had the chance to stamp a claim on moving out the bottom three and we blew it by making stupid decisions and poor substitutions

Bloomfield gave them the point with his changes. You couldn't see Charlton scoring but setting up defensively invited pressure. We were knackered but they just didn't look like scoring and we looked fairly comfortable with the game.

As it stands, we are back out of the relegation zone. Moved up 2 places :D

It's easy to suggest Bloomfield got it badly wrong, when you've got the advantage of hindsight. 10 points from 4 games is a great return.

Needed to win today, so disappointing to concede in that manner. Cummings hadn’t had a shot to save all afternoon. Some of that was down to excellent defending from all the back 4 and the defensive midfielders. Brown had played well but just a needless foul to give away, often the sort that’s not given, but at least the ref was being consistent with the one he gave us.

We probably didn’t hurt them enough once we’d taken the lead and then sat back too much once we got to the 80 min mark.

Thought the players put everything into it, just so disappointing to let 2 points slip from our grasp, we can only hope they won’t be costly after 46 games. With Millwall away last game of the season, we could do with them either already being promoted or doing a Sunderland and taking it easy ready for the play offs, if it all comes down to that match, hopefully we’ll be safe by then but not sure we will be. Anyway onwards and hopefully upwards.

s**t happens when balls are constantly being played in. It was a tired defender spontaneously reacting.

I’d be the last person to point a finger at Ciaron Brown, as I said he would have been my man of the match without that .

It's not hindsight. Many of us made the same point when we rather luckily got away with the same tactic against Blackburn.

True that it's been a great return overall though.

West Brom now 2-0 up against 10 man Hull so looks like they're getting their first win of 2026. Let's hope Millwall and QPR can hold on to their leads to make it a reasonable day overall

No, it's happened fairly frequently, we sit back - invite pressure and they score. Not hindsight, just experience in seeing games.
10 points is a good return.

Individual errors happen. But the more the ball comes into the box, the more chance there is of an error leading to a goal. It was down to us sitting so deep and chucking on more and more defensive players. Why can't we see things out by playing on the front foot, rather than inviting pressure?
I don't agree on this occasion, I thought the game was getting too open and we needed to get some balance and fresh legs defensively. I think the usual game management tactics, play to the corners etc were not done properly if at all.

I haven’t got much to add on what’s already been said. It was a gut punch and apart from being physical I don’t think Charlton truly threatened much. Their manager saying they could have had two or three is plain wrong.

Trying to look at the positives. Apart from the first fifteen minutes where they out battled us with their physicality I thought we played well. Donley is incredible and if we stay up we have to keep him. Lankshear put in a shift and Cam was everywhere and dominated. Young Yunis also is really coming into his own.

So we’re playing better than we ever have this season and that is a big big plus. We’re quicker and hit the wings better and less ponderous on the ball.

We’re much more dangerous on set pieces.

It was great seeing Shemmy back who played in a very unshemmy like way - a lot more give and go and early balls into the box.

And we got a penalty.

So lots of positives. Yes, it was just a point today when we should have had three but I guarantee you we’ll get some good away performances that surprise us for the remainder of the season. Lots of twists and turns yet.

I disagree. You’re not going to go from second worst team in the league to stellar performers in a couple of weeks. Cut the player some slack.
I have cut them slack - I said the run has been very good.
Problem is some games we will just lose as we are not one of the stronger teams in the league. That we knew , going into the season.
So when there’s the opportunity to take points we have to be greedy.
That is the reality if we want to stay up.

Ffs....it seems like none of the5 sides in the relegation dog fight are going to give up without a fight....all we can do is keep fighting too...COYY
