Away Match Day Thread 12/04/25: Championship - Sheffield Wednesday v OUFC

Only down point of the day…id like to know what those fans who were shouting, ‘f**k off phillips, you’re s**t’ as he is running onto the pitch thought how that would help? Ok he probably wouldn’t have heard it but he is still a player wearing a yellow shirt, coming on and putting a shift in for us.

As great as our away support has been, there are a small handful of muppets who are a bit more noticeable than they would be at home games.

I expect every player to respect the shirt, and in return I will always support those wearing that same shirt. Matt Phillips is no where near being the player we thought we were signing, but there is still a player there who can drop back and do a job for the team or close out a game.

We've had those who have said that they don't want to ever see Will Vaulks play for the club again, but he has arguably had the biggest impact of all since Rowett took over. Sam Long isn't good enough for league one yet has just scored the goal that might save our Championship season.

Pretty much everyone who has been coated off at some time has still made a worthwhile contribution, and in a season of such fine margins, they are even more important.

Its a shame that a very small minority are unable to see that.

Excellent results today. Us winning, Cardiff and Luton losing and Derby drawing. So close to safety now, Wouldn't it be amazing to secure safety by beating Leeds on Friday.
I am away on holiday in Cornwall for that next week so that would certainly be a great night. Anything from that game would be massive.

I think we should rest a couple for Leeds. Even if we draw with Cardiff, it will be enough.

But the Leeds game will be viewed by millions on sky tv due to it being an 8pm kick off so we need to put out a decent side. Romeny , Placheta and Dembele, Leigh could perhaps come in to start as they didn't have much game time today.

I prefer at least one of placheta and Dembele as a sub late on for impact with both of them in the team toouch running around like a headless chicken for my liking. As long as we don't get panned 4-0 not bothered about a defeat. Cardiff is the big one.

Mills on the right and Placheta on the left for me from the start. I understand Cardiff is the big one but Leeds is a home game and we should also try and get something out of the game.

To rest players against Leeds and in doing so raising the white flag will be a mental approach. Absolutely full strength against Leeds and try and get this job done. There’s four matches left, we can’t be picking and choosing starting elevens based on a following match. Leeds got beat at Pompey, it’s not like they can’t be beaten. Flat out against Leeds and make Cardiff a party rather than a tense, edgy, do or die fixture.

We cannot waste fixtures with games running out. Imagine resting players v Leeds, getting beat 5-0, going to Cardiff and losing that and then we’d have two fixtures where we might need a point. Of course that scenario could happen by going full strength but let’s give ourselves every chance in every remaining fixture.

Also, we beat Sheffield United at home just one week ago, and they were top at the time. We also held Burnley at home. It'll be hard work to beat Leeds, but it can be done.

Well well well. Back in North Oxfordshire and the dust has settled. What a wonderful set of results!

We're not there yet, but it 'feels' like it's virtually done. So proud of this little club of ours.

Me and the boy are traveling to Cardiff and Swansea and hoping we can enjoy ourselves a bit more now.

Imagine 'little old Oxford' finishing as the highest place promoted side, over huge clubs like Pompey and Derby. It could well happen.

back from today and it was a very very good performance. In both half’s we started well and starting the 2nd half well was key. Star of the 1st half was Alex Matos who was outstanding but clearly tired. Substitutions were well timed and had an impact. Overall a very good day with other results helping

Not much to do to be safe but cannot afford to be complacent. Could do with Sheff Utd putting things right at home to Cardiff in Friday

Vaulks bought a new meaning to a Long throw today.

Get in. I know I’ve been critical of Rowett; it upsets me when a guy on a fair amount of money is tasked with looking after a club I care so much about, and doesn’t seem to do everything he can on occasions.

But fair play, Gary. And bloody well done to our bunch. And the fans; that must have been quite something to have been there.

I usually love seeing Oxford United stickers when we go away but clocked an OUFC branded "stop the boats" one today and felt nothing but shame. People are free to have their own opinions but don't stick our club's badge on it.
Presumably complaining about the recent influx of narrow boats in Abingdon Marina? Never ceases to amaze me how upset people get over a boat.

Well, thanks to Sam Long, we're now two points ahead of my 46 point total. Still games to go (and I still think we'll beat Leeds). @Scotchegg assuming we hit the 50 point mark I'll gladly make sure that £50 sees its way into the JB Charity Pot as I said I would.
Once we're safe I'll happily match your donation to the Joey Foundation

Back in Reading. Still feel like I’m in a bit of a daze. Our late winner (and holding on pretty competently). Blackburn finally deciding to stop doling out points to all our rivals at the bottom end of the league. Pompey getting a last gasp equaliser. Stoke nicking it too. Just a brilliant day. I won’t forget the almost desperate, impossibly long, pained wail of ‘HeaditLongyYEEEEEEEEEEES’ for quite a while. Brilliant moment. If we stay up absolutely one of the defining moments of the season…

I actually think we played quite well today too. We absolutely were value for a result. They did miss a couple of huge chances. But today was a day where we were throwing as many punches as we were taking. On another day Cam gets a couple (and that doesn’t include the laughable decision not to give us a penalty). Vaulks should’ve hit his early shot better. And the way we rode out Wednesday’s early pressure in the second half, used subs wisely then turned the screw for a really impressive 10-15 minutes of pressure leading up to the goal. What a day…

Well well the three games I didnt watch or listen too we won 1-0 the one I watched we lost 3-1. Do I have to take it for the team? Brilliant result today!

I swear the fans won the game for us . There was that six or seven minute spell immediately leading to the goal where the noise was immense. A goal seemed inevitable. And lo it came to pass. It had to be Longy.

Much celebration on the whistle.

Wednesday fans seemed a decent bunch again. This is a club on the skids yet they seemed philosophical enough. All I met said we deserved the win.

Randoms.

Matos would be an even hotter prospect if he stopped falling over in possession.

Tyler gradually improved after an awful start.

Phillips sub masterful work .

V and B engine room did the biz.

Bradshaw put in a good shift evidenced by him going up for post match Burger King afters at Woodall Services . Nice bloke.

The fans sounded immense on the commentary. Again and again I could hear fans, assumed it was Wednesday and then realised it was Oxford. That period of pressure before the goal was indeed immense and I agree it seemed inevitable.

So you want the boats to continue coming?

Exceptional win today, 1 more point and I think we can all relax.

Stick a like if you think the @Yellow Division Official should do a flag for the bicester cafu at some point !!!

Great result. So proud of our awesome fans. Definitely felt like they were sucking the ball into the net before its goal. Rowett played a masterfully coaching game with the starting line up, the subs, and contrary to the rep, the very attacking intent.

We got this yellows. Impressive to the last and boy oh boy after quarter of a decade waiting, every single game has kept me captivated from afar. It’s a long time since I’ve felt this connected to every single game. So desperate for a win. So completely petrified of defeat.

And I feel so blessed that in 1992 I chose the small local club rather than a big gun. It means so much more. And it’s become synonymous with my life. My persona. My general sense of being. My yellow ox obsessed wardrobe. My weekend mode. I absolutely love this club. And the last three games I’ve loved our fans more than ever !

It’s come to my attention our two league away wins this season have come whilst wearing our wonderful yellow and blue.

I say always wear yellow away from home unless there is a colour clash.

Ditch the awful off white pseudo England rugger kit, and leave the baggy ill fitting purple monstrosity in the wash basket.

My pet hate if it isn't a colour clash then wear your normal colours and let's face it that should be only against Watford and Norwich
