Is anyone else going to this game tomorrow?

Burnley is only an hour down the road and since I'm off work tomorrow I am thinking about popping along to see what our future is looking like.

Burnley might be a premier league club but their academy is still only a cat 3 academy so the same as ours. I fancy us to win 3-1.

Just a bit too far on a school night for me....you're in for a treat @DenisSmithsWig... both our U23s &U18s are playing some excellent football, (having seen both squads of youngsters play this season ), some of those young prospects are the U's future

Burnley used to be known for bringing youngsters through many years ago.
I wonder why they stopped taking it as seriously (on the basis that they are in the PL)

Because once you get into the Prem, there is so much money available to you that it is easier just to hoover up any talent developed by clubs lower down the pyramid (to their detriment)?

Mmm well if that is right then something is seriously wrong.
I actually think that the compensation payments due for young players needs to be looked at.
The trouble is that foreign players can be relatively cheap. Maybe one way that Brexit could help !!!

Except that many of the young players aren't from the EU anyway, and the government doesn't seem to have done much about them! But yes, you are right compensation needs to be looked at - and there needs to be some sort of cap on how many players a club can have on their books: certainly youngsters. Chelsea have 40 players out on loan (!) - and that obviously doesn't include any youngsters as yet not up to that standard or age range. Sometimes I suspect that the Prem clubs sign kids simply to stop other clubs doing it! I'm not sure it does the players any good either - look at Luke Garbutt for example. He is an Everton player who is 25, has played less than 100 games, the vast majority at a much lower level and is now being kept out of our side by a player who would describe himself as primarily a midfielder. Might he have had a more fulfilling (and longer) career by being with a Championship/L1 club for a longer period, playing more games and perhaps fulfilling his potential?

It would have been good if 3 or so of the best from this squad were on the bench for the game v Spurs kids tomorrow night. But obviously as Spurs decided they didn't want to play ball last week we are stuck with a clash of fixtures tomorrow.

The game vs Spurs is a week tomorrow (the 18th)

Depends if you define career fulfilling as wheeling away a wheelbarrow load of cash every week or not I guess

Lets hope that FIFA succeed in introducing limits on the no. of loans out a club can do to stop the warehousing of players that Chelsea do.

The powers that be have some kind of restrictions on loan players, albeit for 2020/2021 season....I think theres a short thread somewhere on here on the subject

I see that Spasov has scored 20 goals this season.
The Youth Team are 6 points clear in their league with only a handful of games left.
It would be great to get a result today.

Definately go along if you have a chance, all of our young sides are well worth watching, and play some decent stuff too

Due to a very poorly 4 old I am having to miss this now :( was looking forward to having a pint in the Royal Dyche and then watch our clubs young guns.
