09/05/25: Playoff 1st Leg Coventry vs Sunderland

Wonder how many sides in the Championship have beaten both of this year's (likely) play-off finalists?

Well I know off the top of my head Plymouth beat both of them at home like we did.

Sheffield United look the best out of the 4 but we knew that already.

We gifted Coventry 2 goals in the 2 fixtures we played them and really should of drew both games.

Ref gave a penalty in the away game against City that was very controversial along with Harris missing a golden chance, home fixture apart from a wonder strike by Sykes they offered hardly anything, you could say had we had been alot more braver with them down to 10 men we could of won.

Sunderland made light work of beating us under Des at their place but under Rowett at ours it was probably one of the easiest games for us this season.

Sheffield United made light work of beating us at theirs under Des. The home game felt like a real achievement beating them as they were right bang in form prior. We ultimately stopped their automatic promotion push.

Sheffield United will go up though.

Sunderland's was the classic away performance.
However, as a fan, championship football can get more than a little predictable. Whilst it is true that sometimes intricate, skilful attack (as Sheffield Utd on Thursday) wins the day, too often the key attributes are:
- defensive shape
- having strikers who take one out of two chances, not one out of five.
The midfield battle can get very slow, measured and turgid because of the fear of turnover.
