Away Match Day Thread 07/02/2026 - MDT: Coventry City v Oxford United

That was a real battle, wasn’t it? Must say, it was appallingly officiated from minute one. The incident that lead to Lankshear’s first yellow was farcical but Brown most definitely should’ve gone so swings and roundabouts I suppose.

Anyway. A game plan like that is only worthy of praise when it works, and today it did. I wouldn't say it was tactical genius but the players were most definitely committed and fought for every ball and it’s that that got us the point. That was missing in Sheffield.

Some excellent performances in amongst it all. I thought Makosso was particularly outstanding and Roosken had a good game and looks to have a very decent left foot on him.

The wait goes on to see Jin-Woo. Granted this was a tough game to introduce him to, but he’s cost us a fair whack to be overlooked this often.

Definitely a point gained and it’s closed the gap to 4. Hoping we get a bit more expansive as this run of more difficult fixtures closes.

Now then, that was a proper away performance. Heart, passion & fight in abundance and some moments of quality, too.

Missoko was outstanding, ably supported by a resurgent Helik and Brown. Missoko has huge potential.

Jamie Cumming made a couple of excellent saves and commanded his area in much more assured fashion than he’s managed at times this season.

McDonnell was superb! I love the tenacity that he plays with.

MPH & Roosken had solid games.

If anyone is in any doubt that we can pull this survival off, then today showed that we can compete. Consistency is now going to be key!

Norwich is a must win. We need back to back performances, like we haven’t see all season. Furthermore, we don’t need empty seats and a flat atmosphere on Tuesday. It needs to be full and the fans need to be bang at it.

Keep believing. We can do this!

Great post, EC. You’re not wrong, we really need to back this up with a huge win on Tuesday. Will the fans be up for it? Only one way to find out…… I know I’ve got 7 old schoolers in the car up…

Tbf he didn't send Brown off and he quite easily could have done. That would have had more of a negative effect than Lankshear going off.

Brown was fouled first in that play, Lankshear first booking was for questioning the ref of how the f**k did Peart Harris foul his man when he was dragged to the ground. Ref either had a mate with a bet on or is a secret Coventry fan. Worse referee performance I've seen in years.

Yeah but you’re not allowed to do that to the ref as per the last couple of seasons. Captains and the people involved in the foul only.

Football is much better for it. You don’t get these stupid crowding the referee for a decision moments.

Lankshear deserved both of his yellows - his second was so stupid.

Brown, I think, was probably on his last warning after that foul - it wasn’t a serious one or a DOGSO.

And the MPH one was a foul by him in the first place.

I do think the referee got some things wrong but the Brown and Lankshear ones were fine.

(This will be an unpopular opinion because it doesn’t fit the narrative)

We might still rue not having another striker in the January sales ,There's Harris or Harris, maybe try Romeny he's got abit more magic in them feet. But great effort, and some excellent debuts .

He’s shite!!
He tries hard but he's not championship standard ,but comes across a nice guy but our lads battled unbelievable

Good, hard fought draw today, keeps us within touching distance.

Plenty of opportunities to take points from our relegation rivals between now and the end of the season, but we've got to start scoring goals, and turning some of these draws into wins.

A good result today though, and a well earned point.
Well done Matt and the lads 👏👏

But, he could have sent him off. Not saying it would have been the right decision but could have easily been the one he made, especially going by previous decisions he'd given. He was shite, but at least not in that moment which would have had a bigger impact.

It’s on bein in Oz, so no OUTV.

This is a bloody hard watch thus far.
Yes, outv blackout in several international countries so had to resort to the very terrible fawa news. p**s poor video coverage, forever hanging and missing minutes at a time, plus commentary from Coventry people. Bloody annoying to have paid for a seasons worth of outv.

Great result but we have got to start playing better ,we really are not giving our selves enough chances .Tuesday is massive, Norwich are probably one of the form teams .So it's not going to be easy but we really do need a win and a performance.

Key learning from today.

Lanks needs to stop playing like Harris and concentrate on winning the ball fairly, not fouling whilst not getting offside.

Long, still a good defender but pace wise for this level too slow.

Shemmy. To me his basic ball playing skills very poor.

With Currie and BDK return pending we could have a decent side

Can we really play 5 at the back at home.

Romney to my mind is the only forward who wins an ariel ball. A number 9 in waiting ?

Mr Woo. Is he really that poor ?

We can still avoid this drop but next Tuesday is now a must win game before our free hit against Sunderland

Makosso. Finally a defender who can bring the ball out of defence and break the lines. Mad that we didn't address this last summer
Lots of the things we did in the summer seem pretty damn weird to me to be honest. Shame, we might not have been in this position had we not put the brakes on our transfer window.

Bit harsh on Woo, think he needs to get up to speed is all, before we can use him.

Coventry are in free fall and were scared of their own shadows. We’ll find out much more about ourselves on Tuesday night.
Freefalling their way to the Premier League.

You're explicitly hoping for a bad result so you can say 'I told you so'.

I’d love for you to explain to me how the MPH one was a foul by him in the first place. Maybe I missed something but from the replays I saw I strongly, strongly disagree.

Is anyone more tech savvy than me able to clip it and share it so we can have a look?

Whatever the case with the first yellow you don’t make the second challenge and he led with the shoulder on the second one and could have seen a straight red for it.

The boys fought hard today and got a point, although if we don’t back it up with 3 on Tuesday it’s not as good a result. If we can win Tuesday we put a lot of pressure on those playing Saturday
