a very tight game, though a couple of late goals to seal the win and bring back all 3 points , 1-3 Lankshear, Long & Romeny

They have lost, I think 5 games in a row including 2 under their new manager.
They are sinking like a rock.
Interesting perspective from George on The Dub.
A win would take us 4 points off the bottom 3. I am a bit of a point hugger and a draw would keep us above them

How long have 'point huggers' been a thing then?

I can't recall hearing the term before this season.
A friend of mine used the term when he sent in a text to Radio Oxford a few games ago, and it seems to have stuck since then, as they've mentioned it two weeks in a row on the Dub, and also after Friday night's game.

Spose the atmosphere isnt going to be quite as jovial as the last time we played them at the end of last season, their fans came across nicely but it was the end of season with us both safe so i spose its easy to be in a good mood and they'll be tense now.
im too used to oxford doing well in a tough game and then immediately dropping the ball in the game after, but i am a complete sucker so im gonna say 2-1 to us and we get a miraculous 3rd away win of the season to better our 2 from all of last year!

Fixture computer went a bit weird this season because we're playing Swansea twice this month - Saturday and then at home on the 29th.
Then we're going to Ipswich on New Year's Day to complete the two fixtures against them in a little over a month as well......meanwhile after seeing them on opening day, we don't play Pompey again until April!

This is a chance to get a marker down. More a 'Must not lose' than a 'Must win' but I think we want at least three wins from a relatively friendly set of December fixtures, and Saturday would be a great place to start.

Sucker 😁

They’ll regard it as a must-win, on paper one of their easiest games of the season against crappy Oxford. We’ve got a really good chance of a win, probably with an unchanged team.

This isn't anything new - we had the same with Plymouth last season (both games (originally) in December) and also (more or less) with Millwall.

But yes, it's completely unnecessary. It doesn't have to be 'play all 23, then again in the same order' but there is no reason why you should play anyone twice within 3 months, let alone a few weeks.

By the same token, you shouldn't have a scenario whereby you've played two more away games than home (or vice versa) at any point - as we will have done after Blackburn, and again after Charlton.

Imagine instead if we had Swansea and Blackburn at home, Preston away, and then Charlton at home before Christmas - completely different to the trickier reality.

Yes, you play everyone twice etc etc - but I don't see why it has to be distorted at any stage. If we don't get results in these three away games before Christmas it puts unnecessary pressure on the Southampton-Swansea home double-header that puts us back 'equal'* in terms of home-away.

*Until we immediately follow that with back-to-back away games at Ipswich and Sheffield United, obviously.

Agreed.

With the flipside of this, of course, being that 6 out of our last 10 games are at home (and none of them against current Top 6 teams).

Which is why if we can get to the end of February with our heads above water - or even close to - then we should have high confidence of avoiding relegation because there are a lot of clear opportunities to pick up maximum points in the final two months of the season......

We are often doomed with an unchanged team - let's just set up to beat the oppo

This has typical Oxford written all over it Swansea no win in 5 Oxford unbeaten in their last 3 with a sensational victory over Ipswich in their last game.

Swansea 2 - 1 Oxford

Maybe I'm pessimistic, but I'd just be happy not to lose this game as it's very much like us to do well against a top team then struggle against a team who hasn't won in a month.

Given we seem to thrive on fickle kneejerk reactions (no offence everyone) can see us lurching from a wonderful result to a not-so great one.

Saying that I'll be watching every minute in the hope GR picks another bonkers starting XI and pulls it off!

After what was for me a night to remember against Ipswich I’m hoping the team and the manager carry the momentum foward and we now start to build on this three game unbeaten run. For me the positivity from Friday was just such a good feeling I want more of it.Swansea 1 Oxford 3. 🙏

No point hugging from me.

On the back of recent results we need to continue the momentum, not with a draw, but with a resounding win!!

A mahoosive six pointer!!!

Really looking forward to the trip. Last away for me until Sheff Utd.

Come on You Yellows... bring the points home.

Much like the build up to the Norwich game, i cant get my head past the poor away record we have and the statistical unlikihood that we will win away from home.

I draw is by far and away the most likely positive result.

If we win it really will be a turn up, regardless of their poor form.

A win really will be a reach for us.

Agree. Three points needed.
And let’s hope there are a decent lot of us there to see it all through. Looking forward to a weekend in Swansea and a couple of beers to celebrate.

I understand what you saying but its not as simple as you think. Each club has teams that will always be away when you are at home. They may be in different division but every club has at least one. That means in our division every club has dates when they cannot be at home.
In addition clubs can specify a number of dates when the ground is unavailable. During the holiday periods, excessive journey time are avoided. Once you start putting all those parameters into play getting fixtures are not straightforward.
All clubs have some input into fixture scheduling, so the clubs have had some input into the final list.
Historically clubs used to play teams home and away over the Xmas period and in the Easter period.

Bring back the old system when the second half of the season fixtures mirrored the first. With the only exceptions being local derbies on bank Holidays.

Tricky to balance, because we'll have had over a week off, but then into another 3 games in a week...

I just hope we go with a little more intent than against Norwich - its probably a more winnable game than the trip to Blackburn, so if we were to be a bit less cautious in one of them, I'd hope this is it!

No reason not to go with the same starting line-up, but maybe swap Marris and Lankshear.
