Away Match Day Thread 06/04/2026 - MDT: Portsmouth v Oxford United

If,as reported, bottles were thrown at the Referee and one or two of our players by Portsmouth fans will they be reported to the FA ?

Placheta at LWB is an easy one to explain. He would have been coming on for MPH right up until the point that Spencer put himself one tackle away from a sending off. At that point Spencer had to come off and Plachata was the only option. I also think Plachata has played wing back for us previously.

Yes, he has - badly! I love Shemmy as a slightly insane, feast-or-famine attacking option, but the guy can't really defend.

The line-up we finished the game with yesterday was bonkers. HTA, Helik and Brown as our only defenders and five out-and-out attackers on the pitch.

Made sense whilst we were chasing a much-needed win, but the second that Lanks goal went in, we should have been making a change to shore things up. Makosso on for Mills or Donley, shift Brown out to LB and go back to the 4-2-3-1 formation we started with and know how to play. I'm not saying shut up shop (we've gotten ourselves in trouble doing that lately) but get a proper, robust back four on the pitch, and everybody into a familiar formation (it's not like Ciaron doesn't know how to play LB, he's done it often enough for us). Make Pompey work for an equalizer.

To stick with the kamikaze XI for six minutes when we still had a substitution in our back pocket and a top quality central defender on the bench, was criminal.

It’s weird. In terms of points we definitely have done better against worse teams. But the performances tend to be better against some higher up the table. Just can’t bloody score.

And there we have it. 1-0 last minute winner deflected off Chaplin’s knob by the looks of things.
