But it’s far better to play a side that can get drubbed by Stoke than a team that never gets drubbed because they’re too good.

A point away at Portsmouth is decent. We shouldn’t wet our pants at the prospect. We aren’t in this league because we won a raffle.

Yeah, but we won the lottery of the playoffs.😉

Hoping we can come away from Fratton Park with our first away win.

We’ve had two draws against clubs that were in the Premier Lge last season. So that’s something to build on.

This

The worst possible time to play any side is after they have been drubbed
Pompey players will be busting a gut all over the park as we did the game after we played Bolton.
2-0 away victory at Port Vale, our players had had a rocket up their a**e Des made changes and the rest is history as they say.

Murphy will obviously want to do well and expect him to be a real handful

If we come away with a point I will be delighted
Id rather be playing a team without win that just lost 6-1 then just won 6-1. We are no push overs like Port Vale were. Always a hostile atmosphere at FP but can work against them if we start on the front foot like 2nd half at Luton.

We are due a win at Fratton Park but as I say after they lost by such a huge margin they will be even more up for it to put things right
I thought we would do well to come away with a point before that result. This makes things even harder

I remember after the Wigan 0-7 we had a tricky away game, maybe Southend (bit of a bogey side at the time), we tightened up and got a 0-0 draw I think.

We also beat Birmingham away the same season they put seven past us at the Manor.
And beat QPR 4-1 the week after Sunderland put seven past us as well.
Not a dull season, that one.

Well if we can beat Leeds and Sunderland etc away then we shouldn’t be that happy with a point away to Portsmouth?

A point on Saturday is not a disaster but it’s definitely a game we should be looking to win.
Football is a funny game, its not going to be that we beat the bottom 8 teams away, lose to the top 10 and draw to everybody else. There won't be an away fixture this year (unless mathematically we need 3 for whatever reason) that I wont be happy with a point. There will be games that seem winnable that we lose, and games where a win seems improbable at best that we come away with three points.

Over a whole season yes, always works out that way but I have a feeling we will get more points away against the bottom eight than top eight so we want to be maximising these opportunities. Plus games against Pompey, Derby, Cardiff, Plymouth etc are chances to put a small nail in the coffin of a relegation threatened team, don't want to miss that as they will be more than happy to do it to us.

Every game in this league will be a battle and impossible to call. I won't feel confident about a win in any of them but I won't feel fearful either. You're right that we do need to win a few away though hopefully our home form will stay strong and give us the majority of the points we need.

Plymouth stayed up last season winning 3 away and drawing 7 away from home.
They won at Swansea, Middlesborough and Rotherham.

As much as I buy into the whole 'poking the bear' point of view after the Stoke hammering, having watched a few Pompey games this season, I can say with confidence, they are miles off it. I still cant quite wrap my head around how the League One champions have entered the Championship season with a considerably weaker squad than they had last season. They seem to have put all of their eggs in the Murphy basket, at the detriment of the rest of their recruitment.

Having listened to a lot of the post-Stoke media with Mous, its clear that he is running out of ideas and suggesting that tomorrow is a 'must win' for Pompey, stinks of naivety. He's piled the pressure on himself, and his team.

Anyway, 3-0 Oxford (Edwards / Brown / Harris)

My 11 is as follows:
--------------------------
Cummings
Kioso Moore Brown Leigh
Vaulks
Tyler Miz Ruben Dembele
Harris

Despite how he’s doing right now, I do feel there’s a good chance Mousinho could be our next manager - hopefully a few seasons down the line yet. I’d like to think we can keep hold of Des for at least two or three more seasons, hopefully into the new stadium and beyond, but when the inevitable happens that will probably coincide with Pompey having got bored with Mous by then. I just think he’s destined to manage us at some point. He doesn’t want too many more nights like tonight though on his CV, they looked a ragged, dispirited bunch and hopefully we can take full advantage on Saturday.
What an odd post. Why would Mousinho be our next manager any more than anyone else and why even raise the possibility of Des leaving when he has made it clear he’s not going any where. What are you trying to stir up?

As it stands, unless there is a miraculous turnaround, Pompey are going down. Why would a #TeamLikeOxford recruit a manager with a relegation on their CV? :ROFLMAO:

Would not be surprised if Moore is unavailable. Given that the International break is coming up, would be a good rest to get his knee in order. Moore has always been a big miss, but with Nelson now readily available…and preferring to play on the right he would just slot straight in. I reckon we have too much for them, they will be up for it but be amazed if we don't come away with the three points.

What a difference a summer-window makes. I have been extremely impressed with Nelson, and wouldn’t worry if he started. Brown has also shown that he is more than capable at LB. Last season, missing Brannagan and Moore at the same time would be a disaster. Just shows how good our recruitment has been!
