Away Match Day Thread 04/02/25: Championship - Burnley FC v OUFC

If their fans are starting to get a bit fed-up with the cautious defence-first approach, lets hope tonight isn't the night for Parker to let them off the leash a bit because that could be worrying. If we can withstand an early onslaught I think we've got the tools to hold them out and frustrate them (as we did at ours), and maybe nick something on the break...but a turgid 0-0 would be just fine as well.

Absolutely not!

We don't have a game for ten days after this one, so should go there all guns blazing, as there's plenty of recovery time. I'm not travelling to Burnley and back to see a shadow squad get humped!!!

100% this.

I'm leaving in a minute for a 4 hour trip up there, back at 2am and work at 6am. I shall review my commitment to away games if there's the slightest sign of chucking the towel in by means of a ridiculously weakened starting eleven, a weak bench or a weak mentality coupled with the same apathetic approach that's been previously seen in one or two away games at 'bigger' clubs in this league - admittedly under Des. Like you, I want to see us up for a right battle and all guns ablaze going for a point or more. If we lose then it's how we lose - go down scrapping to the death will be perfectly acceptable. Strolling around like we've given up and just accepted defeat wont be.

Here's hoping !

This feels the most obvious point where the run will come to an end. That being the case, losing by a low margin wouldn't be a bad result. A draw would be great, and a win out of this world. My main concern is that this doesn't create a turning point in what is becoming a fairly comfortable end to the season.

The top 4 are miles clear of anyone else in this league. This is our last trip to one of them this season. I hope we use it as a chance to rotate and see what Bradshaw, Matos and Romeny can do in a tough environment. They’ve only conceded 9 goals all season.

Next Tuesday is far more important, but we could take a bit of pressure off that game if we nick a result tonight.
Agree Bradshaw for Harris, but not too many changes. Play/team as we mean to go on!

I think a midfield 3 of Matos, Cam Bran and Vaulks could work well tonight. Be tough, give them nothing easy through midfield.

I’d probably go with Cheese on the right, Tyler on the left. Save Dembele for a second half impact role.

Just want to see us compete, something we didn’t do in a similar looking away game at Sheff Utd earlier in the season.

Repeating what I said on the build up thread, I can see us going a bit more defensive tonight.
Cumming
Kioso Helik Brown Leigh
Vaulks Brannagan
Placheta Matos Dembele
Romeny

Or possibly go 5-3-2, as I think our best chance of scoring will come from a set piece.

Rowett is a very different kind of manager to Des, I think he will set us up with the best players & shape available, with options to try and meet them in the middle and nullify, with some strong goal threat options for certain sections of the game.

Burnley under Parker are a tough defensive club, but Rowett is extremely savvy and will want the three points.

I started my journey a few hours ago, a new stadium for me.

I would really like us to sit a little deeper and narrower and spring our wingers wide when they get the chance.
Might be worth trying to utilise Rodriguez up front and that could bring Tyler in as No.10.

Burney have not conceded a goal in their last 8 Championship games. It would be fantastic if we can end that run tonight and even better if we come away with a point or even all 3.

I’m not expecting us to achieve any of the above, but if we do then it would be some performance.

COYY

those with slightly longer memories may recall the away cup match at West Ham , if memory servers we took a seriously sizable away following, and held the PL side to 0-0 until time added on to time added on , when Scott Parker nicked a late late winner

Scott Parker is Burnley's manager, I reckon we owe thebastard a late defeat, why not tonight
Yep remember it well..
