Away Match Day Thread 03/02/2026 - MDT: Sheffield United v Oxford United

It'll be Bromley rather than the Olympic Stadium but it'll be more enjoyable. More chance of winning and promotion and a repeat of the scenes in town that we saw in 2024.

We'll be back (if the panic spending doesn't hurt us).
Also Salford and Swindon to look forward to. Along with Bolton maybe and Reading. Will be tough that’s for sure.

Much credit to those travelling this evening. I went last year and it was thoroughly depressing - the long journey from Gloucestershire, the motorway delays on the way home, the non-performance of the team…. etc etc. Add in the miserable weather and I just can’t get enthusiastic about it.
I am going up to Coventry, though…. strange behaviour 😁

Hoping there's time for a quick visit to the Middle East Shawarma before the game! Will need some extra body fat this evening!

The concerning thing about tonight is that if we don't win, Blackburn should beat Sheff Wed at home and could increase the gap even further.

I wouldn't be surprised if Blackburn drop points.

Wednesday won't lose every game til the end of the season. And they're not getting pumped every week.

A trip to Ewood Park is a decent enough prospect. The locals will be very restless. They've pulled the manager but will still be sh*te.

Imagine the morale at Blackburn if they f*ck it tonight.

Regardless, it's on us to scrap for every point we can get and a result tonight is very much achievable for us.

Imagine instead that we close the gap on both Blackburn and Portsmouth tonight...

I like your optimism and would love for you to be right, but Sheff Wed have lost 6 in a row.

I see injury hit Portsmouth have not put the covers on and subsequently their game v Ipswich tonight is postponed. No doubt re-arranged to March where they have Bishop and Murphy back fit and firing.

I agree with you that they have been quite lucky with the timing of their postponements, but they are going to have a lot of games in quick succession when the pressure is really on.

Is it a good or bad thing? fixtures piling up!

I always remember going to see Forest v Oxford. Stuart Pearce was injured and despite undersoil heating the game was called off, as I’d just gone past the Coventry exit on the motorway, nothing of course to do with Pearce getting injured.

Murphy has always been injury-prone, so who knows if this will work out for them. They've had a quiet window too, by the looks of it.

Not very hopeful about this one tbh, I think they're a much better team than their league position would indicate, I actually fancy them to make a late run for the playoffs.

Oddly, I'm more confident of a result away to the league leaders on the weekend.

On this scenario the fan should investigate, if true covers not on knowing the weather prospect then maybe Pompey should be fined, the argument is “ the weather looked ok “ but should be investigated like this not tonight with our age with the postponed due to the weather.

Wednesday could actually do us a favour or two over the rest of the season - as well as Blackburn today, they also play Charlton and WBA at home the final two games of the season. Nicking a point or three off of any of those would be useful.

Um ...... yeah .... I think!

Fascinating times! Can’t wait to see tonight’s team! Can’t wait to see tonight’s lineup! Can’t wait to see how many of the newbies will start!

Sheffield United 1 - Oxford United 1.

If we were playing the Sheffield United that came to ours earlier in the season then I'd seriously think we can get something, even a win. However, it isn't and this could easily become a watch from behind the sofa sort of game - a repeat of last season, 3-0 to them. We just don't have goals in us and our forwards are the weakest in the league by a mile. I'd play Helik and I'd also play Leigh (is he still here ?) and probably Long, they still remain our biggest goal threats. I'd also find a place somewhere for Vaulks - the throw and Helik, Brown, Long and Leigh scrapping for the knock down will be our biggest goal threat tonight and going forwards into the rest of the season.
