I’m no expert but google says the following re under soil heating:

Timing Recommendations
  • Standard Operation: In normal winter circumstances, systems are often activated from the Wednesday for a Saturday match (around 72 hours in advance) to ensure the pitch is perfectly playable.

  • Minimum Timeframe: A minimum of 24 hours before kick-off is often cited as necessary to make the pitch playable.

  • Optimal Prevention: The most effective approach is to activate the system in anticipation of cold weather, preventing the ground from freezing in the first place. If the soil has already frozen, it can take at least three days to bring the entire system up to the required temperature from a standstill.
They obviously did it on purpose. No system would be useful after several days of hard frost and snow switched on at 5am.
They didn’t do it on purpose!! People will make up, and believe, any old b*****s these days.

But do these other clubs have undersoil heating?

It was a pretty high risk that the game would have been postponed without the undersoil heating, but Sheffield Utd do.

Additionally, locals have said it’s fine around the streets, so not called off because of that either!
They don't. But for the games on TV the EFL helped with facilities to ensure the games went ahead, Lincoln had a big inflatable dome thing over their pitch.

There’s no reason they’d want this game postponed, I mean, playing a team who are 2nd from bottom, not having the best of times against a team doing fairly well at home!!
The Sheff Utd fan who told me about the undersoil heating only being turned on at 5am made reference to Wilder being vocal about the fixture congestion over the festive period, which would be one possible reason.

Just hoping results go our way today and there’s still only a few points separating us.

It's Blackburn-Charlton today so at least one of those strugglers will increase the gap. Along with Portsmouth (off today), they'll be the ones to watch in the coming weeks.

Whilst there is always a chance of a mid-table side tanking (and Norwich could yet falter) it currently looks like Wednesday down and then a mini league of us, Portsmouth, Charlton and Blackburn - with two of the four going down.

The good news is that all of the other three are struggling on with current management - hopefully we've gone early enough (assuming we appoint someone this week) to give ourselves the edge.

Certainly enough poor sides to go after there.

I'm confident that Lincoln and Cheltenham don't.

Bolton may have along with Birmingham and QPR but don't know. MK Dons may have but I suspect they don't.

For whatever reason, Sheff Utd screwed up. They are to blame, not Sky or anybody else.
Different part of the country/later KO’s and smaller stands.

I don’t believe Sheffield would have wanted the game called off at home against lowly Oxford!

I could accept that if it was potentially a tougher game, but I’d like to think they/he weren’t frightened of Oxford!

Where the "F" did all this compo culture come from?

Games have been called off for many, many years. Its part of the fun.

You either shrug your shoulders and go home or find another game to go to. 🤷‍♂️

Idiotic ragebait post. What's with this 'hard man' mentality on here sometimes?

Go and say that to the face of the fans that travelled, paid expenses and had to deal with disappointed children in the freezing f*****g cold.

Agree that it would take a particularly wimpy team to be scared of Oxford at the moment! And that it’s a lot more likely that someone cocked up rather than there being anything deliberate at play here.

And those areas, or relatively close by had games called off. Plenty of later KO's called off including, iirc, all of the L2 3pm ones.

What do smaller stands have to do with it? After all Sheff Utd had undersoil heating which plenty of those clubs didn't and still got their games on. We've done it in the past without undersoil heating as, iirc, used heat lamps and covers.

They might not have meant to have it called off but with the pitch heating this really shouldn't have been called off or even at risk of it. Sheff Utd are the only ones to blame for that.

I was told a shadowy figure, possibly wearing yellow and blue, accessed the control room and turned the undersoil heating off at 5am....

I’ve heard it was a mysterious individual with a shadowy, corporate vibe muttering about customer activations and trying to plan in an appearance on the Price Of Football podcast. He also denied knowing what a fans forum is on the way out…

Its life, it happens.

Disappointment is part of being a supporter.

"Compensation" has only reared its head in the last few years and has now become the "default".

Seen plenty of games called off, abandoned and in some cases virtually invisible over the last 40+ years, never asked or even thought about "compo" let alone "think of the children".

:)

I did ask for my money back after getting thrashed at Rochdale once!
Never got anything back mind...

So did Cheltenham.

The U S of A and their constant ‘something’s gone wrong someone must be to blame’ culture.
