Slightly worrying is there’s already a four point gap to the team above us. So there’s a seven team group at the bottom already.

W le did on the FoxFM scoreboard I think? For the brief time it worked/we could afford to run it.

Remember when we used to announce the scores, always enjoyed finding out Swindon had lost. Even in the mobile phone era I think we should announce when Swindon lose, walking away from a championship win would be topped off nicely to hear they have lost to Harrogate 3-0.
And the screens in the London road end stating ...oohhhh it's a corner

Pity they don't put scores on the scoreboard at the open end.sort of in the name really

That would be a great thing to do as fans leave the stands.

@FAB Admin Is that something you could suggest please?

Blackburn Wanderers do it...

What a completely silly thing to say, to condemn someone based on one thing said, as a pathetic excuse of a human being.

Meanwhile nobody has, it appears, reached out to the author to clarify what was meant or ask questions on values. Instead the decision is that we know precisely what was meant and that we hate it.

There is a great joy taken in condemnation and this lad has taken a kicking without anyone talking to the author and genuinely trying to understand before reacting

Great joy taken in condemnation? I really truly wish I had never seen the article.

Anyway due to comments made action has now been taken and we have hopefully delivered a life lesson and nobody got a kicking either metaphorically or otherwise.

My friend used to put out the half time scores at Wealdstone, they hung numbers on boards that corresponded with letters in the programme that identified the matches. (This sounds like it was before the war).

They were still doing that at The Manor back in the 90s. A long time after the war. But it would be interesting to see when it first started and by which team. Wiki could get busy tonight.

What a weird thing to find 'worrying'.

We're also just 5 points off 10th ffs. It's clearly a ridiculously tight League this season - if a four point gap emerges anywhere all that means is that there is a pile-up immediately above and below it.

If we were to win the next two we'd probably be 13th/14th...

With teams in that pack playing each other the points get shared around too. Every time you win you just hope for draws around you so that you gain two points on two teams for each drawn game.

However I do get the point about there being a bottom 7. I still personally don’t count Sheff United, Norwich or Southampton as rivals in this league as I suspect they will all pull clear of where they are and one or two of them beyond mid table. I get more excited at Derby, Watford, Blackburn and Portsmouth dropping points.

The ht scores on the front of the Manor Club continued until 1st or 2nd season in the top flight. I looked this up a while ago for another thread.

From what I remember, the club built a roof just in front of The Manor Club stand around 87ish? This obscured where the scores were hung up, so they stopped doing it.

Oxblogger let himself down too ............. "There was a mercifully short Remembrance Day ‘service’, as Peter Rhoades-Brown called it. The reading of ‘For the Fallen’ was barked at such a volume, it felt like someone had got us by the throat and was shouting ‘YOU’RE NOT REMEMBERING ENOUGH’ while covering us in spittle. Even the corner flags had poppies on them, although they were fluttering disrespectfully during the minute’s silence. Which, incidentally, is not silent if a trumpeter is soloing all the way through it."

I’m not really looking at the league table much yet, as long as we aren’t cut loose at the bottom we just need to keep on picking up points and getting the odd win - we only need to average a bit over a point a game.
Same here. Well, not exactly the same. I'm looking at it about twenty times a day. But same in theory.

Glad you don’t find it worrying then. Nearly a quarter of the way into the season and we are in a bottom seven that others expect Southampton and Sheffield United to get out of fairly easily
Instead some blind optimism that we can win our next two games.

I think the expectation/hope is that while a couple might push out of the relegation battle they will be replaced by the same number of clubs falling back into it? Not unusual for clubs to have a good start then drop off, we did last season leading to a change in manager.

Another dark day for comprehension on here.

I don't believe we will win the next two, nor do we need to. The point is that your 'worrying gap' can't be much of a gap if just a 5 or 6 point swing (achievable over a handful of games, if not two) is enough to get you a whopping 8 or 10 places higher up the League.

Besides, to flip this around, is it not blindly negative to assume that a side who has lost 10 games this season (Sheffield Utd) or only won once since the opening day (Southampton) will 'get out of it fairly easily'?

You have shown yourself to be of a nervous disposition at this level. Yes, it's a real challenge - but I personally believe finishing 14th is just as plausible as finishing 22nd for us.

Despite the apparently insurmountable four point gap to Derby County.

I feel the author ‘Rodney’ is an insensitive tool, and should be discouraged from publically writing again.

Although I note the word ‘nonsense’ has now been hastily (but too late) removed, the rest of the sentence now makes little sense. Rodney’s throw-away flippant comment has already riled those of us who acknowledge the importance of remembering those who have given their lives for this country. I imagine if Rodney has verbally made the same comment at the game in front of Millwall supporters then he wouldn’t have been well enough to type his poor report later.

Rodney has also added a cheap bit of misogyny in the first line and called supporters who left early and missed the equaliser ‘stupid’.

All in all, I feel this article was a bit of an own goal from a usually trusted site. Shame.

People who left early and missed the equaliser were pretty stupid - the last five minutes is basically the bit you pay for, the denouement. Yes I know some people have to rush away for some very wholesome and important reason but most don’t.

You might not agree, but there’s no problem with saying this.

It’s his blog so I agree with you, it’s an opinion he is entitled to have.

But when you put an opinion out there then people can counter that, and I would say that’s quite a take, that it’s all a bit much, to remember the huge numbers who died serving this country, when that bit much lasted about 5 minutes and was some poppies on a corner flag.

I will just avoid his blog from now on, although I don’t think I have ever read it so that’s probably not really going to matter much to him.

I agree. If you were to say this to him I would have thought it would only confirm the suspicion that others are trying to dictate how people remember those who have died.

The reason that newspapers (generally) are a better read for opinion is that the content is mediated i.e. under an editor's eye and this piece is certainly not considered at all. It seems to be lurching to some kind of social media clickbait audience. It might be reasonable to offer this take however with a caveat that it is probably an outlier. The lesson has been learnt we think.

One of my best friends supports Coventry and he reckons Watford could be dark horses for the play offs this season. Apparently although getting beat 3-1 against Coventry they ripped them apart even after going down to 10. They then went on and beat Middlesbrough 3-0 on Saturday. I can't see them being anywhere the relegation scrap. I actually think Norwich could be bang in trouble if they don't get this next appointment right. Pompey aren't looking great, Blackburn will be down there all season. Derby are a bit of a strange one because I expected them to do quite well this season.
