"Karl Robinson rues injuries"...you couldn't write it, but then again I guess it is the Oxford Mail's job.
It's as if he had nothing to do with signing these players - their injury records were there for all to see.
In general I'm an optimistic fan, but it is becoming increasingly irritating...
I think the truth is even worse than “we didn’t reinvest the money”.
First and foremost, the club needs to be making a net gain on transfers to remain viable financially. This is absolutely fine, and we’ve all been behind the model for a number of years which has seen the pitch graced with the...
I agree with this - Robbo seems to think he’s stumbled on a great recruitment policy by bringing in players that on paper are too good for this division but on grass are invariably injured. A huge chunk of our budget is lost on players that give us 5-10 games a season.
This is not a knee-jerk...
Excellent bit of strategy on the GK front, downside risk has been minimised.
Protected our asset (Stevens) by signing a new contract and getting him out in L1 for first team football to hopefully regain his form.
Meanwhile we have Eastwood who has been on par or better than Stevens, and...
Fullback/s will be loans, Murphy and Jones to be confirmed on Tuesday. Sinclair is a back-up if other targets don’t come through, will be a short-term contract similar to Bodin last year if it’s offered.
The fullback signings will reveal a lot - KR said we wouldn’t look at 3-5-2 without McNally’s pace, but he did describe Findlay as pacey (although he doesn’t look it), so that could be back on the cards now. Makes sense with Brown dropping in at LCB as well.
What you mention is Bates’ game, so...
Update: looks like it’s Bate, called out on the Yorkshire Evening Post now also. Definitely a talent, but there won’t be an option to make it permanent as he’s highly rated there.
Won’t be Summerville - he’s on Leeds’ pre season tour in Australia and considered part of the first team (especially since Raphinha was sold). Bate, on the other hand, remained in the UK. As did McCalmont, Jenkins, Bogusz and Ian Poveda
Thoughts on bringing in a free agent...it's not worth the risk of being short at CB when we have a good shot at promotion.
Winston Reid is available, last seen helping Brentford to promotion to the PL...I guess the question is will a free agent be up and running within a week or so.
Incomings is one thing, but contract extensions would also make for great news. By my reckoning we only have 7 senior outfield players next season (as it stands)!
Long, Williams, Taylor, Brannagan, McNally, McGuane, Seddon
Sunderland splash out on a 31 year old CB who’s played 11 times this season and suddenly everyone forgets the model that has seen Dickie, Nelson and Atkinson pass him on his way down from the Championship…
Yeah I saw this and was just about the post an update - strange move and you'd be surprised if the Turkish second division was near L1 level.
Best of luck to him, and hope it helps on his road to recovery.
Jordan Ibe is a free agent, recently left Derby County by mutual consent. Sadly he has cited depression which is probably the reason he's taken a break from the game, but a move to Oxford could reignite his career as it has done with so many young talents over the last few years.
Still...
CB worth multitudes more than £500k! He's easily an upper Championship level midfielder, and without him we wouldn't get promoted.
Barker could be worth a look, he's OOC this summer so a loan could easily be converted into free transfer if he does well. Worst case scenario a great option off...
I wouldn't say it's a bad thing, it's a sign of the great times we've had recently (MApp and KR regimes). Looking back, recruitment has been absolutely fantastic on the whole.
After following the club for c. 20 years, it's nice to want ex-players back rather than grimace at the memory of all...
