Home Match Day Thread 19/09/20 L1 - OUFC v Sunderland

It's a good plan, but who on earth would want him? Injury prone and a major disappointment in the few games he did play.

Home Match Day Thread 19/09/20 L1 - OUFC v Sunderland

No evidence so far that any of the new signings are L1 standard. Clare was dreadful today. Cooper seems to struggle to get into a game. Osei showed nothing worthwhile at all. Atkinson only looks any good when bringing the ball forward, he's poor at his day job. Early days? Obviously. But there...

Away Match Day Thread 12/09/20 L1 - Lincoln City v OUFC

You can never tell much from the first league game of the season, but you'd hope there'd be something positive to take from it. Nowt from this one apart from a 10 minute spell around 70th - 80th minutes, when Sykes should have buried that rebound.

Away Match Day Thread 12/09/20 L1 - Lincoln City v OUFC

Pretty disappointing half. Lincoln look more up for it and we're just giving possession away with aimless balls into the box. Could be 0-3 down. Get Dan on!

Not funny. This belongs with stuff like Liverpool fans doing aeroplane zooms at Man U games. Not funny.

    International News Covid-19 .....

This came from relatively early (in global pandemic terms) findings from Wuhan. It now appears that some of this 14% were actually not re-infections but relapses, i.e. the return of certain symptoms after recovery (which can happen with most viral infections). There is an article in the latest...

Yes, I think the overall figure suggests that 14% of confirmed "recoveries" have succumbed a second time. Also, in the period after recovering the immune system is not at its strongest and a person will be vulnerable to other infections like flu.

    How to complete the season

Has anyone else been reduced to watching Aussie Rules Football on BT Sport? What a weird game. And sadly they seem to have eradicated the mass brawls and full-on punch-ups that used to make for watchable YouTube clips. Without the knuckle-dragger violence it's plain boring.

Don't forget that people are also dying this year of what might be called "seasonal flu". The Covid-19 deaths are being recorded separately to those, so will be additional to the normal count.

Agree to an extent, but there is also a big wave of volunteering and neighbourhood organising to support vulnerable people going on. The better side of social media is coming out with new community Facebook groups and practical examples of support.

Chairman Tiger - board will back oufc through covid 19

The £50m is made up of payments brought forward that would have been made anyway at the end of the season, plus a pot from which loans can be made to clubs who apply. The loan would be interest free, but just another debt for any club applying for one.

    How to complete the season

It's not exciting and it's not going to be viable. Footballers, club staff, match officials etc etc are all human. There will be a proportion with the virus to varying degrees, with squads unable to train together and players concerned about exposure to themselves and their families.

    International News Covid-19 .....

Fortunately the world moved on from this kind of thinking 3-4 weeks ago. It's real, it's a pandemic, get used to it and let's get through it as best we can. Though I guess that head in the sand is a valid way of self-isolating.

    How to complete the season

I guess it achieved treading water! The EFL and the PL can't say much apart from wishful thinking at the moment. They're just marking time to see how their peer organisations and the government react to the spread of the virus. The cricket authorities are due to make a statement about the...

    How to complete the season

The £50m doesn't seem to be 'new money', it's partly bringing forward payments that would have been made at the end of the season, and partly a pot to make loans from. The loans will be interest free, but still only loans. The EFL is obliged to sound willing to finish the season but they have...

    How to complete the season

I've not seen anyone advocating the season being voided. A lot of people are saying that it's the most likely outcome, but that doesn't mean they agree with it. In legal terms it is the likeliest option for the football authorities (because it is easier to defend in court than the cases that...

    How to complete the season

Yep, there's going to be a lot of wishful thinking about 30th June coming from the clubs, but we're in a situation where the football authorities can't take decisions for themselves. Football is connected to the wider world. It will take a very sudden downturn in the pandemic to allow for...
