Marcus Browne joins on loan

Can't see West Ham recalling Browne, they are doing ok in the prem and not far of 6th place.
Why call him back and throw on the bench when he's just getting going, they will let us do the developing and sell him on.
If he were my player and I genuinely thought he had a shot at playing in the PL, I would remove him and put him back out on loan at a Championship side to see his limitations. Or one of the absolute top teams in L1 who are chasing automatic promotion, so I could see if and how he thrives around better players. Unless, that is, the player assured me he was genuinely happy and wanted to stay. Then I would consider it.

Hopefully this is what happens, ie the player says to leave him be. He’s some talent on his day and I still feel we haven’t seen his top gear yet. He still has another level in his locker, and more consistency to give. If he stays fit I think his best form is to come in January and beyond. I just hope it’s us who gets it.

Yes: a Championship club would make more sense at this stage of his development. Let’s hope he’d prefer to stay, here to give league one full backs sleepless nights.

Surely the fact that he signed a season long loan suggests that the plan was for him to stay a season and unless something exceptional happens then that is what will happen?

Hopefully he will look at the time Roofe spent with us in League 2 playing every week as the way to improve. Would he get the same in the Championship?

It will entirely come down to the player. The Payne comparison is a good one in that if one of the ambitious clubs in our league come calling offering a shot at promotion, you would take that over a drop battle.

Of course, it could be a moot point when Tiger and Robbo get to work on landing their January stunning targets- he might not get in our team!

Something exceptional such as his form?

Yes but is that a surprise and exceptional?
To be fair to KR he has said all along how good Browne was.
The club appear to be managing his injury well (He is playing more and looks fitter) he is getting game time.
With Premiership players good form is always possible but isn't the intention for it to be a season loan not only if he doesn't play well?

I think his injury history would have a say on things. He has found form as his fitness has been maintained, would it be worth risking switching him to a new club, training regime and physio team (obviously there would be a handover of his fitness notes but there would still be some changes) midway through a season with his recent injury record. Being stable fitness wise whilst playing well against league 1 opposition is better than taking a chance on his training regime not being as well suited to get him championship opposition.

I'd be surprised if he moves in January. West Ham know what they're doing when it comes to bringing through players, unlike Huddersfield when it came to Payne. Payne is a great example of why the grass isn't always greener. Yes, he won promotion with Blackburn, but look where he is now - at Bradford City. Safe to say he hasn't made the step up Huddersfield would've wanted.

If I were West Ham, I'd prefer Browne to get a full season under his belt here, rather than stepping him up to the Championship where his season could stagnate.

Is what happened to Payne down to Huddersfield or Payne himself? On his day fantastic but I wonder why he hadn't fulfilled his undoubted ability?

The gamble with going a league up is will he play many games? Does a full season of football serve him better than 4 months of game time and 4 months of fits and spurts of game time? Seeing as we try to play the right way, I'd be happy to leave him be and assess him at the end of the season. I'd be concerned about the fact he's kicked about in most games, but I suppose it is part of the whole growing up period in sport.

Well, a bit of both really. I don't think Payne having a settled club has helped (he's played for 5 different clubs in 3-and-a-half seasons), but at the same time he's obviously not fulfilled the potential he's shown flashes of.

I’m sure when he signed, he thought that we would be fighting for a playoff place rather than fighting to keep out of the bottom four. I’m sure that there are a number of clubs who will be looking to sign him for the final punch in both the Championship and League one.

Jack Payne?

Hmmm.. I didn’t think there was a real danger of Browne being recalled in January. Until I read this today..

Marcus Browne is another of United’s on-loan players, but the West Ham United winger does not yet know where his future lies.

He said: “I’m not too sure what’s going to happen in January.

“I’m just enjoying playing and keeping my head down.

“I’m pushing everything to the side and we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”

Sounds exactly like he’s going to me. Compare the comments from Holmes.

Browne is a younger player who right may think of pastures new. Holmes just wants to play football, so the mindsets are different.
