I think we're just suggesting it's not something to get overly annoyed by, Sarge. Mistakes happen all the time. Bit sloppy but nothing sinister.

edited / corrected my post.... with the wrong season now the right season !

Indeed @Briggsy ..... in an Official OUFC announcement from OUFC Head of Marketing, Id like to think it would be proof read before issuing to the public..... I would be interested to know which actual year/season Headington United shirt was intended to be made and offered at £36 ?

I emailed the Club re what appeared to be a valid point from Sarge and have the following reply (which they are happy for me to share):

'1966 refers to the design of the shirt and the fabric used, which is the same as the 1966 World Cup winning shirt.

This is the suppliers description, not ours – though I agree it looks odd alongside the 1986 description. I’ve just reproduced the suppliers descriptions of the kits.

It was NOT intended to be the year! That should have been removed from the description.'

So a minor error, unfortunate but not as seismic as some have suggested. Chillax everyone.

They're sadly mistaken if they think Headington United won the world cup in 1966. Please can you mail them and ask for an explanation.

In fact Headington United NEVER won the World Cup although I think Oxford did in 1986 under it's old name.

Both yourself and Wallop have had the club explanation ..... no need for me to edit, as my post(s) on the subject flagged up a glaring error, which was allowed to go public on an official communication, from OUFC Head of Marketing via OUFC Official website.

Has the club edited the OFFICIAL OUFC communication from Matt Everett, OUFC Head of Marketing as yet?

With a national newspaper and a very large internet group picking up on the £75 limited edition replica ~~traing tops~~ Shirts 'story'
IMO the OFFICIAL response should have been proof read thoroughly , and several times, before issuing on the OFFICIAL OUFC site

The better the communication from OUFC (in the main, but not exclusively ) the more positive( my- & others) posts tend to be on here ....... besides arent forums supposed to be an exchange of opinions? .... the more (correct) information available, on any subject, can define positivity, negativity (or even neutrality) in most posters, here on YF, comments I d say @MarkG

I wonder if those news outlets picked up on some premier clubs selling replica tops at £100 a pop, as well as a L1 club selling just 125 commemorative tops at £75?

Make sure you run the shirt past Sarge. He’ll want to check the ex-player messages for accuracy. Any stray apostrophes and he’s going to be angry!

I doubt we will get decent length and reasonably well explained explanations from the club again if minor, and in the big scheme of things, reasonably unimportant errors are punched upon and intimated to be life changing and destructive for the future of the club.

Christ it’s a poxy shirt that nobody has to buy, didn’t exist in our conscious two weeks ago, and may make the club some money.

As for Matt Everett not knowing the history of the club, I’m pretty sure he’s a life long fan.

Hmm is the incoming financial director setting out a fleece the fans approach from the off?

If a standard replica shirt is £40+, I think £75 for a limited edition one off commemorative shirt is about right. I can’t afford one, but I don’t have a problem with the price.
