Home Match Day Thread +++ 11/8/18 OUFC v Fleetwood Town Official Match Thread ***

I think it's you who needs to watch again, McMahon is done very easily. Evans is clearly watcing the ball and knows where it's going, he got lucky with a tiny tug,
Are you okay? That's not a tiny tug. You can clearly see Evans has grabbed Mcmahons hand and then put his other hand on Mcmahons upper arm tp stop him pulling his arm away and then pulls him down.

Doesn't excuse the poor performance, but it's clear as day that this is a foul that has been missed.

come on now boys, if we had been denied a goal because of that you would all be pis5ed off

The over reaction on here is staggering. Yes it’s clear there are plenty of problems with the team, but we are only a couple of games in to the season.

12 months ago I was amongst the most vocal about how dire the team and manager were even before the season kicked off. We had an owner who was only interested in getting out, a manager who clearly didn’t have a clue and a squad consisting of mediocre to totally aged shite. We now have an owner who clearly wants in, a Manager who frankly saved us from relegation last season and a squad which is mainly full of potential.

Being realistic not every new player will turn out to be what we expected. Garbutt & Mackie are clearly off the pace. Very few, if any, teams will hit the ground running when they’ve been forced to change the majority of their squad. Almost everything about our club has changed in the last 12 months, I can’t think of too many other clubs where that applies.

Fleetwood were no better than us yesterday. It was a clear foul by Evans for their first goal and we were unlucky to be forced in to a keeper change which led to the second goal.

The biggest frustration at the moment is the lack of effort on the pitch by everyone except Holmes. That is much harder to explain.

Come on people though, be realistic. We were unlikely to be much further ahead when everything’s taken into consideration. There is plenty of work to do and probably more painful performances ahead before things get better, but it will get better.

I don't think it's an over reaction. We have been terrible for two games in a row and there is no evidence, like there was in our poor start under Mapp, that it's going to improve. Funny that Portsmouth are tipped for the top yet they played 5 new players in both of there opening fixtures. 6 including Wheeler who came on as a sub in their last game. The problem as I see it is not the fact that the team needs to "gel" it's the quality of the players we've brought in. If the financial side of things was good, as KR has said then it's only the ability of the players that is in question and right now it looks so bad. The only potential I see is as I've said elsewhere Holmes, Carruthers, Hanson, Hall all playing together. That said many players start off badly and end up being some of the best so let's wait and see.
As it stands:
McMahon, looks slow and cumbersome. I'd swap him for Edwards or Kane all day long.
Mackie, miles off the pace. I hope he's just not fit at the minute. The only benefit is that he's on a contract based on games played.
Norman, looked all over the place, slow and dare I say it worse then McMahon.
Tsun Dai, not seen him play but looked like a headless chicken on you tube. Let's wait and see.
Gavin Whyte, not seen enough of him but wasn't very effective in preseason. Again a wait and see.
Holmes, quality
Garbutt, so bad I'd send him back to Everton and loan 2 more left backs. One for real and one for cover.
Carruthers, looked really tidy until he was injured. I think we need him back badly.
Browne, could be good but not seen enough of him.
Smith, looked better than obika for sure but that's not really difficult.
Hanson, fingers crossed. We need him to be very very good.

I expected better from us to be honest. The fact that we only have one left back, two proper forwards one unproven and one proven to be not very good is concerning. Despite KR say he makes no excuses for have an abundance of quality out wide. I don't see any evidence we actually have much.
