Ronaldo is unhappy and Messi not doing so well at PSG. Let’s do the unthinkable and bring them together for one last hurrah.

We can then see what they are really made of at Morecambe and Accrington away on a cold wet Tuesday night
If that happened, Kip would still complain about it. "Top 30 clubs don't sign over the hill has beens. They might have been good once but what do they bring the club now?"

Just had this thought, having lost a very close friend at the weekend down under, pondering life.
This is not aimed at any poster at all or any post.
We comment on how suitable a player is, how good they are, what great goals, saves, tackles they make. We also consider the negative side to these points, for example relating to specific players at the moment.
I really think we need to consider these players will read these boards. Being that most of these players are still young in life terms, and are our players, they will take things personally, which could affect their play even further.
Lets therefore consider how we phrase things on the board when discussing the players.

For whatever we think of them they are Oxford United players after all.
I don’t disagree MY and it’s very sad to hear about your friend.

However, as I posted earlier, this forum is effectively 100 people shouting into a vacuum, some much louder than others! It’s full of inane nonsense, repetitious time-wasters, outright nastiness, humour, bravado, absolute garbage, incredulous claims, touching sincerity, occasional honest truths and some genuine insights - ie typical of most forums!

I’d advise any players and staff to give us a wide berth and I’d certainly hope the likes of Seddon and Long stay as far away from this as they can. Some comments have been very unnecessary.

I agree with you. Would it be seen as going to far if we were to apply the same rules to each other. Keep it to the topic/response to a post, with nothing personal.
Regarding Seddon and Long, simply keep it constructive, a response they can look at and try to correct, or equally in the case of our goal scorer yesterday, and what a goal it was, take the praise and look to move onto the next level.

There’s a big difference between footballers receiving abuse/negativity on a platform such as Twitter, where they can be tagged, and a forum such as this, where they would actively have to seek out comment to see it.

Abuse of any sort is to be condemned. Are players abused on here? If they are, I think they come a distant second to the abuse thrown between warring correspondents.

What type of striker is Joseph then?
Cheltenham journos take on his strengths.

'His main strengths are his all-round athleticism. He’s a decent height but he’s not what you’d necessarily call a target man but he is still good in the air which made him useful in both boxes.

I remember remarking about it during games in the press box that he often seemed to be the one that was heading corners clear as well. He can run in behind, play with his back to goal, chase aerial balls and lay it off to other teammates.

Joseph is also a really good personality. He’s 21 in September and already has a decent amount of football under his belt. He’s got a good attitude, a positive character and has all the attributes you need for a centre-forward'.

Apparently Chelsea haven't handed squad numbers to a few decent players (Billy Gilmour, Ross Barkley, Michy Batshuayi). I imagine they will probably go to Championship, but if we are serious about promotion, it would be worth enquiring after their availability. They all could do a job in league one.
Lay off the drink fella…..

So the more I think about it, the more Joseph sounds like someone in the style of Sam Smith (the version we saw yesterday as opposed to his time with us). He's not just a lamppost who you hit with long balls, but someone who can play with his back to goal, battle for 50-50's and bring others into play, but who can also run in behind and stretch teams.

Having someone like that will open up so many different dimensions for us. In games like yesterday Taylor is completely ineffective as a lone striker. We were getting pressed and he offers no threat in behind and can't really hold the ball up. Teams know they can press us high up the pitch for that reason and stop us playing through midfield. If we sign Joseph they are going to have to think twice before doing that. It might means teams sit off us a little more and opens up more space for our ball playing midfielders.

Hopefully having that sort of forward up top will open up space for Browne, Murphy and Bodin, not really Taylor’s game and it’s really shown in pre season and the first two games.

With the extra subs allowed and his age Taylor may well be better suited to coming on against tired legs for the last half hour, that’s where a fresh Taylor could do damage in the box.

Unfortunately there is no chance we could sign any of them due to their wages
Yeah that’s why they wouldn’t come here, shame really.

But, it's all about the commercial opportunities these superstars bring with them. Assuming their wages are £500,000 a week each, then we're talking around £50m for one season for both Lionel and Cristiano. If we put Messi's name on the home kit and Ronaldo's on the away and flog them as a special collectors limited edition boxed pair for say £200, we only need to shift 250,000 boxes. Bangkok Glass might even buy them all ;)

He’s 32 not 52. We need an alternative to Taylor absolutely, but provide him the service he had last season and he’ll get another 20 goals. The striker signing will give us the option of 2 up front or to rest Taylor, but the last two games have shown us that the midfield balance isn’t quite there yet. Once that clicks, Taylor will do what Taylor does.

And from a Cheltnum season ticket holder : “Wasn’t with us long as he was recalled early. Seemed a little “raw” but has pace, and scored one of our goals of the season.”

I’ve seen they’ve played Joseph as Right Wing Back, which is why we’re very keen. Could solve two issues

I wouId say there is a thin line between abuse and negativity on the forum, especially as perceived by younger players reading the forum. Sure they would take criticism, but intertwined with mild abuse, it could be seen the other way.

It’s a fans forum, nothing more, nothing less, full of opinionated amateur managers and players who think they know more and could do more than anyone of the players, coaches or staff associated with the club. Take me for example, I’d never miss a penalty.
If anyone gets offended by some of the drivel on here I’d be very surprised, I suspect they have a good chuckle at some of it and dismiss the rest as utter tosh, if they don’t I’d say give the forum a wide berth in future.
