Great goal to finish the game, like others have said the other 92 minutes were pretty awful from both sides. Thought Mcguane and Seddon were the best of the bunch that played most of the game. Definitely need a forward, right back through the door minimum to build on this 3 points.

One of the great oxford United moments. To be a home grown lad, come on for League debut and, in the 92nd minute, beat two players and put it top bins like that is the kind of thing you see once a generation. Absolute schoolboy dream, Roy of the Rovers stuff. And if you haven’t heard it, listen to his interview afterwards. Had me grinning like a Cheshire Cat, what an absolutely golden lad.

A late winner always influences your perception of the game, but, trying desperately to be objective, I think there are positives and negatives to take away from that. The negatives are that that was pretty bad. No cohesion and poor individual performances from many players. Good effort shown by players in the press, but it was rarely a team effort. A lone man chasing down a CB with the ball looks great, but is ultimately a waste of energy if no one else is joining you. We need to be smarter there. I also think the stats don’t tell the whole story - sure they had no shots on target, but (with the caveat it’s difficult to see the fence end from the East) Cambridge looked to have the much better chances in the first half. Some of our play out from the back was very slack as well, Moore in particular played some very poor passes. Browne put in a shift but is not a CM, and I think his inclusion stifled Brannagan, who seemed to have a very uncertain role, and was consequently pretty ineffective.

That said, there was a lot to like there. The subs for us completely changed the game. It’s encouraging to have that strength in depth, and to see that Henry can still have such a strong impact for us. Murphy I was initially very unimpressed with. He looked very lacking in match sharpness and just generally off it. Completely changed when he moved left though, even for a few minutes. He must start left if he is to start. Bate put in a hell of a cameo and I think is nailed on to start next game. Likewise MacGuane, who I thought first half especially relished taking the ball and dictating play. Looks much physically stronger and cleverer as well, which is great.

I also thought we looked uncharacteristically dangerous and solid from offensive and defensive set pieces, respectively. You won’t find two better players at winning the ball in the air at our level than Moore and Findlay (although their lack of pace and reluctance to bring the ball out from the back I fear could cause problems over the course of the next 44 games).

Clear pen for us but I thought their shout looked very good too. All evens out I suppose.

One of those games that was tailing off into into the realms of instantly forgettable (does anyone, at all, remember us beating Crewe 1-0 at home last season?), but will now be a game that will hopefully go down in OUFC folklore as The Tyler Goodrham Debut Goal game.

Overall for 92 minutes we were abysmal then a moment of brilliance won us 3 points.
Stand up and take a bow Tyler. Long was poor today as was Taylor and although Tyler won us the game we still need another striker.
I heard a rumour today and it’s something to do with RB Leipzig and a player, not sure how much is in this rumour or who or what position it maybe, but then again it’s only a rumour.

Delighted for young Tyler today. What a moment for him, and what a brilliant interview afterwards. So nice to hear a young kid buzzing like he was, rather than trying to play it cool. Enjoy it, son.
In a world of desperately sterile football interviews, the post-match interviews of the Lionesses last week and Tyler Goodrham today are such joyous beacons of what football should be all about. So great to see.

What a goal for the young lad, fantastic. It did though mask a rather poor performance.
We could well have been put.to the sword by a higher team. It rams home the real need for the 4/5 outstanding players still needed.
Bit of a conundrum regarding Tyler. Does he go out on loan to a high quality league to build on his clear skill, honing it week in week, or does he stay in and around the squad waiting for his opportunity,
Playing in the cup games.
Excellent prospect with a clear eye for goal. Have a great Birthday.

Yes, as soon as a player gets interview training, they go so boring!

If Steve Seddon had put in the performance that Sam Long did, he would be currently be tarred and feathered on Broad Street.

Seddon, by the way, had a decent game.

He started off horribly (and I commented as such) but improved significantly through the game.

Organisation, Cambridge were way ahead of us. Well drilled, disciplined, and deserved a draw. Us, quality on the ball, and therefore no questioning the talent on display (in most areas), but we looked so disjointed. Early days, and based on this, we will be a top ten team, but we need to find some structure and discipline if we are to even creep into the play-offs, let alone higher. Out of the two, Oxford I am sure will finish higher than Cambridge.

REF WATCH

Birmingham official Tom Reeves is the man in the middle for today’s clash with Cambridge.
This is his second season in the EFL and his first visit to Grenoble Road.

He took charge of the U’s last season on one occasion - the 2-1 win at Stadium MK on December 11th
where he dismissed Jordan Thorniley In the last minute.

He refereed Swindon’s 3-0 defeat at Harrogate last weekend.

I wouldn’t say abysmal but certainly not good enough

What Robinson is doing here is finding out which players perform best in which position.

Our window has been a shambles in the length of time it takes to get players in

I have said time and time again we should have done this in pre season. We have got some players in but it will take 4/5 games to find what works. Lat year we had players in much earlier other than Kane. This year we still need three more players.

Good job Tyler came to our rescue, because if we keep dropping points it makes the task that much harder
