Didn’t say they don’t but he should be hitting the target there in my view, you take any other striker at this level & I think he hits the target there. When Matty is on form. He’s a quality striker. When he plays like he does on Saturday. He goes missing & doesn’t affect the game at all.
Wow that eally is a bold statement and very ott in my opinion and rather disprespectful to Matty Taylor

Did he affect the game at all Saturday? I said he was a quality striker. I said however in many games he goes missing and because we haven’t got a viable alternative we are stuck with keeping him on the pitch even when he’s underperforming. Nothing disrespectful at all. Just telling the truth.

I thought the second half for the first 15 we were on top of them personally myself. Their keeper made a good save. How Taylor doesn’t hit the target when he’s through in the first half either I don’t know. Any other player on the pitch hits the target in my view or some of the strikers named such as Hardie & Stockton out that chance away. That changes the game if that goes in.
Certainly Matty Taylor didn't have a good day but to say that Stockton or Hardie would put that away is conjecture on your part and you are just trying to find something else to beat him with. Taylor has as good, if not better, scoring record than either. Stockton 41 in 114 for Morecambe (and little in the previous years) and Hardie 28 in 99 for Plymouth. As a comparison, Taylor has 51 in 116 for Oxford.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't welcome either of those two in addition to Taylor but give the bloke some slack.

This.

Taylor is in League One for a reason, but compare his stats to any other League One striker and he will always look good. Add to that his clear affection for our club and you have someone who is utterly undeserving of the regular round of over the top criticism he gets. I’m not talking about the “he had a bad game” stuff, clearly he, like all players, does, but there is a regular surfacing of negativity that is tiresome, wrong and, frankly, unwarranted.

Eastwood a hero. I think I have read everything now.

Yes he did impact the game or at least was doing his bit. His pressing of the GK and two central defenders was very good but 1v3 is not likely to garner results, that's where the three behind him let him badly down. He certainly didn't go missing in the opening 45 minutes.

No player is perfect. Those in L1 are probably less perfect than some playing higher up! I don't think the focus ought to be on Taylor here, he was often being marked by more than one defender and the supply to him was (with maybe just one exception!) very poor - and once we started to try and close the game down the only thing he had to work with was hopeful punts up the pitch. Which is not and never has been his strength.

Saturday was basically last year's team (with Findlay replacing McNally) and included some such as Henry and Seddon who weren't even getting in the starting XI last time, so I guess it is unsurprising that they played like that - much like last season. Unless there is an influx of players in the required positions (and we live in hope) and they are starters then we are going to see more performances like that in the weeks ahead.

I`ll say it again O`Donkor should have been thrown on as soon as MT started to run out of steam, either as a replacement, or a move to two target men up front to take the pressure off Taylor.

More flexibility is needed when you are chasing a game not doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

With respect you boldly stated that any other striker at this level would have done better which is pure conjecture.

That has zero to do with how he played Saturday when you make such a bold statement.

As i said in earlier posts, the debate on Matty is annual and he still delivers, like any striker he has barren spells.

Did you see the miss by that Haaland fella? it happens but you wouldn't bet against him getting plenty of goals this season, likewise Matty.

If Matty became available clubs would bite your hand off.

Sorry if I appear to be a bit thick, but how is the goal Gorrin's fault. I have just seen the highlights and I can't see how he was to blame. It was Findlay who gave the ball away. I'm not saying Gorrin wasn't at fault, it just that I can't see it.

This is just after Findlay has given the ball away. I’ve circled Gorrin. Seddon miles out of position. McGuane in a decent defensive position and Moore covering the run of the striker.

Here he appears to be looking left and deciding to let the striker go with Moore. He can see that McGuane and Findlay are over available for cover.

Here he’s in a decent position but to be fair to him he might be thinking that he needs to cover if Findlay gets beaten

However, now the Derby player has cut inside, he needs to drop back into a central position and cover the space. But what he does is a mistake I’ve seen him make many times for us…

He mindlessly goes towards the ball and is drawn in to the ball, as he loves to close it down, regardless of the situation or the players around him…

Now because he’s been dragged in we have a situation where three players can be cut out of the game with one pass. McGuane to his credit has realised this and starts to shuffle centrally

When you look at this shot you see that Moore and Long are in decent positions, in fact given the formation we were in at that point the only players who are out of position are Gorrin, and possibly Brannagan

This is just before the goal, Moore realises that there’s central midfield cover and desperately tries to come out and close down, which is probably something they’ve worked on, and McGuane also tries to come over. Unfortunately the shot is a good one, although Eastwood may be disappointed to have been beaten from a shot so far out of his area.
