Ex Player Mark Sykes goes to Bristol City.

Sykes is a strangely inconsistent player, with long periods of being good, bad or indifferent. At his best, he would be one of the first names on the team sheet, during his worst periods putting him on the bench would seem like an indulgence. I don't have any beef with him, he has decided to move on after fulfilling his contract. Good luck to him, I hope he can find a bit of consistency.

Good luck Mark Sykes. I enjoyed watching you play and you created some magical moments. (And some not so magical.)

You’re good enough to play at a higher level now. You were’nt when you signed.

Never let the club down from a work rate perspective so don’t get the beef from some.

He’s hardly Dean Morgan is he?

It's probably the clubs way of saying we think we can do better than you but at the same time not wanting to p*ss the fans off by losing another OOC player.
I think it is only a one year deal because of his injury. We don't want another Rob Hall situation when he comes back only break down, again and again.

You would think it would be a 1 year deal with an option to extend.

If he doesn’t get a deal, perhaps we can get him in to help with our social media channels (or whatever nonsense was being discussed with regard to Rob Hall at the end of last season).

If we'd offered a longer deal and he ended up being out a lot, then the club/KR would have got criticised such as they have with Sam Winnall.

I’m not sure why Sykes is getting so much abuse. He’s a tidy player who had a good few months in the first half of the season and then filled in for us in different positions in the second half of the season.
He didn’t want to sign a new deal as he knew Championship clubs were sniffing around, of course he’s going to push himself at a higher level

I'm not sure why so many people are saying Sykes is getting so much abuse!
Don't be mislead by the thread title - the general consensus appears to be "done ok, good in parts, always likely to move on, good luck"!

I would be surprised if he is more than a squad player in the Championship, but stranger things have happened.
Was it v Newcastle, where he was excellent and gave them all kinds of problems?
He has the talent, and if he could be a bit more consistent he could do pretty well

Good luck to him.
Think it was West Ham but not 100% sure, from memory he came off the bench and was pretty much unplayable.

Probably, but I definitely remember him being ridiculously good vs Newcastle as well.

He wasn't a consistent performer, but at times his close control to get away from three/four hassling opposition pressers was stunning.

He was our best player at getting in a cross quickly when he had very little space.

I've seen a few people say this. I really think we need to see first, I wouldn't be so sure. I think he is very skillful but lacks a football brain.

Bristol City's business seems a bit weird to me if they're essentially replacing COD with Sykes.

I guess it's a combo of Sykes being three years younger, more versatile and less injury prone. Probably cheaper as well.

But is he really the better player of the two?
Even though he had just barely turned 21 when he left, COD had already shown vastly more end product than we've ever seen from Sykes! And now he has 160 games worth of Championship experience.

Was Newcastle the game where he "marseille turned" the ball inbetween two Newcastle defenders? That was a class moment!!

Probably explains why they’ve been one of the poorest championship sides for the last couple of years to avoid relegation.

Confirmed to Bristol City:

Nice bit of shithousery giving him the bare minimum statement.
Always says a lot about how a player is seen at a club, even within the club, when a statement on their time here is so short.

Good luck to him, he only played half decent the last few months, before that he was pants would hope we can do better
