Current Player #10 Sam Baldock

There will definitely be another striker coming. We’re one of a few clubs in for Norwood at present so another to come for sure, be it him or an alternative target.

I suspect the 3412 with a front pair, rather than four at the back with a lone striker, will be the main formation next year.
I'd like to see someone taller and faster than MT or SB. My gut feel is that Norwood is very similar to what we've got, though I can't profess to be an expert in all things Norwood.

I'm cautiously excited for this. Probably more on the cautious side than excited.

The good - Sam Baldock is a classy player. His movement and that instant partnership with Taylor really looked to be going places before he got injured, and his signing ultimately reveals we'll be going two up top next season. That'll be exciting. It's also a thrill having two front men who support the club too. Just imagine if Swindon do come up and we can release superfans Baldock and Taylor at them .

The not-so-good - He's 33 now and it's a two year deal so probably Baldock's last contract of any note or length. With his injury record, I do have a niggling doubt that we've released Sam Winnall and replaced him with a player of a very similar profile, ie a player whose ability is worthy of the division above but with an injury record that drags them down a division (that said, Baldock achieved more in two and a half months than Winnall did in two years). I would like to see a younger player join us to carry the load because I can't see Baldock making 35+ league appearances like Taylor does.

If it works, it could be a very fruitful partnership.

To be fair Baldock has given us some very recent evidence of real quality. Sam Winnall was shot well before he got to us.

The instant partnership that Baldock struck up with Taylor reminded me of when Billy Hamilton signed and instantly had a great understanding with Aldridge. Both always seemed to know where the other would be be and they set up so many goals and chances for each other which helped to power us on to the Second Division Championship. Hopefully the parallel ends there and Baldock does not suffer as many injuries as Hamilton. I think if Hamilton had sayed fit we would have had more than three seasons in the top division.

Why I'm hopeful for this signing is that he is very good, and he is also an athlete. I'm really pleased all in all.

Really pleased that Sam has agreed to commit to us. Hope to seen a younger, more robust striker develop under him and Matty. Isn’t Matty being encouraged to develop working on the coaching side with a view to staying with us longer according to Robbo? Last season with started with Winnall and Dan Agyei, I’m a bit more encouraged by how things are shaping up with the forwards this time round!

At last and it's a shame it's taken this long to play in that formation. When Baldock and Taylor play as the front two, we look so more dangerous. Add Browne into the mix and another decent striker and I get a little moist.

The last few seasons have made me err on the side of caution when getting excited about a transfer, but welcome Sam, quality player.

Great signing after what we saw of him.
A littke concerned on his age for a 2 year/last contract and injury potential.

Baldock & Taylor have the potential to be a division-wrecking front two.

But at their combined age, and given Baldock's injury record, we'll need competent backup as well.

I guess Browne can fill in up front if needs be, but I'd like to see us bring in someone young, quick and athletic - who can both back them up, but also provide something different off the bench as required. Basically a better version of Dan Agyei. Maybe that's a PL/Championship loanee?

I'd quite like us to sign a proven goalscorer like baldock and Taylor Im thinking maybe Norwood or Stockton I'd then like us to sign a player like the chap (name is gone) who was on loan at swxxxon from Ipswich early on in this season

Stockton would expect to be no.1 starter not a back up to Taylor and Baldock.

Why would he be back up.all three could compete and if baldock gets injured we still have two very good strikers with a younger one on the bench

Few other options I wouldn't mind us going for.

Conor Washington (released by Charlton)
Ellis Harrison (Fleetwood)
Izzy Brown (released by Preston)
James Wilson (Port vale)
Josh Eppiah (Northampton)

Who's the younger one on the bench?

I would expect the first pairing up front to start next season to be Taylor and Baldock and the other to be in the bench would Norwood or Stockton be ok with that
