Atkinson Moore and Dickie all looked a bit sus in some of their early appearances.

I would suggest that not many young defenders showing composure and performing consistently from game 1, would be as far down the food chain as League 1 if they're that good.

We do however have a knack of spotting potential and doing good things with lots of "works in progress" and "not quite made the cut" type players....and that's kind of the model that has generally worked for us in recent times.

So I'm not too fussed by youngsters with room for improvement as I have confidence that the majority will and do improve whilst with us.

The alternative is spanking millions (of someone else's money) on "oven ready" League 1 players in the hope that it will all come good (just ask Sunderland)simply on reputation alone.

I actually prefer what we try and do, which is a blend of proven players, those with something to prove and the desire to prove it, and exciting prospects[emoji6]
Yes i think this is right , within reason. But you are inviting another slow start if you’re expecting a main member of the defence to learn on the job.

From watching him play the other week I’d say he’s nowhere near ready to start. I know thats only one game but I have nothing else on which to base an opinion. Like you say sometimes it takes a few games to settle into the first team. Personally I would like to see the pressure taken off of him and us sign a solid ready to go CB. Also If one of them gets injured can we count on Mous to play twice a week? I doubt it.
having said all that if KR thinks he’s good enough then that’s good enough for me. But if that were the case why were we linked with several CB’s
Completely agree, signing another CB should not take anything away from McNally, as you say it’ll take the pressure off and help him develop with a bit of competition to train with. It also gives us that squad depth and resilience we need to safeguard against injuries. It’s a long old season and I’m sure he’ll get plenty of game time anyway.

If we don’t sign anyone then before we know it fixtures will start racking up and we’ll end up having to roll out Mous/Long/Hanson at CB regularly and that scares me a little bit.

But like you say, in KR we trust.

To an extent but I would suggest that was more to do with injuries (ruffs, gorrin, banners, mouse, Atkinson etc etc) and the lack of cover, partly due to squad and wage cap limitations and partly due to poor planning.

I think I few teams would be able to sustain performances with that many key 1st teamers out at (or around) the same time....unless they've got deep pockets and were somehow able to play the imposed system better than others.

It makes where we finished even more remarkable when those players were available and bodes well for next season IF we don't suffer the same bad luck.

The general positivity here is a refreshing change, long may it continue!

I agree, could be an exciting season for us.

With regard to big Dan, I just can't see a way for him to be in that 11 with the others we've got. I think it'll be another season of coming off the bench for him and so a move for free in 2022 sadly wouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Of course id love him to prove Karl wrong and be challenging Taylor for top goalscorer but we've got to be realistic.

Last season we flicked between various formats but this time it has to be 4-3-3.

Stevens

Long Moore (McNally, a new CB) Seddon

Brannagan Gorrin McGuane

Williams Taylor (Cooper, Bodin, new LW)

Probably forgotten a ton of people but that seems to me the sensible lineup. COYY!

I'd play Dan on the right if Taylor is starting, he may be in a winger's position but he just gets the ball and charges at the goal, often very productively. He should start sometimes and if not then come off the bench.

This apathy surrounding Dan Agyei is disappointing. Against Oxford City he shone in possession and movement. He crossed and he shot (and scored) and looked at ease picking up the ball and moving past (through?) defenders.
More or less what he displayed last season, when given the chance. He has come on in leaps and bounds and deserves a new contract and the chance to start.
The one who should give way is Winnall, final touch for me, was his walking off the pitch with another injury and showing total disregard for his team mates. He could, and should have gone down, stopping play, and given everyone a chance to take stock of what next.

Who knows if there are injuries ? The one thing we found out last year he scores goals works hard and creates alot of chances compared to win all. Just wish him all the best for the season let's hope it's good for everyone.

It is quite amazing that we have gone from mid table mediocrity to having a good season based on one signing (I am sure that Kip can offset any optimism!) Sure it is a very Important signing but ot was always likely to be a 'when rather than 'if"
We clearly need another CB, one more winger and 2 to 3 other players (do we really need more than 1 other winger?)
The starting line up (COVID allowing) looks decent and if all are fit and allowed to play there will be no excuse for a poor start.

I, for one, rate Dan Agyei. I don’t think there is a lot of apathy towards Dan; it’s more apathy towards KR, and at times, his treatment of Dan!

Disappointed for Dan.
He hasn’t really had the chance to shine here and I can see that he will likely need to move on.
The lad needs game time that I cannot see him getting here at the moment.
At the right club, he could turn out to be a real talent. Strong, powerful, dynamic with an eye for goal...!
😬😳

Agyei scored 0.35 goals per 90 minutes and Winnall 0.56.
Assists? 0.21 v 0.14.

I don't think there's a single person on here who would take Winnall over Agyei, he offers none of the excitement but much more stress, and wastes that spot in the 18 that could go to a hungry young player. I would have DOY over Winnall, for that matter.

Agyei just needs to calm down a bit. When ever he gets the ball he's so desperate to do something that he ignores easy passes or gets dispossessed trying to hold on to the ball. This probably has something to do with the fact he's brought on when we're chasing a game but I think if he can develop that quality of holding the ball up, slowing play down, he could be the perfect ying to Matty's yang...

I'm surprised Dan hasn't been discussed more, this needs to be a big season for him and he could be a million pound player for us. He was notably trying a lot harder than anyone else against City because he's got something to prove.
