So we've replaced two championship-level wingers (Lee & Barker) with two L1 wingers (Williams & Bodin, and that's being generous to Bodin). And now we've lost Ruffels & Atkinson and will have to play Elechi & McNally, or maybe Long & Mous, in their place in the pre-season games. Doesn't look too ambitious to me.

Hang on, why is Lee Championship level but not Bodin? Barker is currently SPL level.

Oh god - this is like Groundhog Day. I really hope we have a great summer recruitment wise. Im still on the positive bus, but despite the bus company investing, the engine is making a weird noise, we've got a flatty, the passengers are angry... and we've only just left the depot.

I’ve just had a s**t in the dunny an’ all. That’s gonna stink the whole way.

Is this the same Brentford who sold
20/21: Watkins - £30M, Benrahma - £24M
19/20: Maupay - £20M, Konsa - £12M
18/19: Mepham - £12M, Woods - £6.5M, Yennaris - £5M, Egan - £4M
17/18: Jota (not that one) - £5.8M
16/17: Hogan - £9.4M

And despite the sales of all these key players, they have just finished a run of 7 seasons where they never finished below 11th in the Championship. The key is getting the reinvestment and recruitment correct. If you hit more than you miss, you can solidify and progress. For example, they paid £5M for Toney (rising to £10M with add-ons). He just netted 33 league goals, setting the single season Championship goals record since the divisions were rebranded in 2004. That will have almost certainly triggered those extra add-ons, but Brentford won't care about that one bit. Their investment fired them to riches of the PL. And if they sold Watkins, who had never played a minute of PL football, for £30M, what could they get for Toney now?

It's gutting, frustrating and disappointing to see these players come and go of course, but we need to trust in the overall process and that the scouts are busy identifying the next prospects on the conveyor belt.
The simple answer that you overlook is how much of those sales were reinvested in the club, whether that be put towards players or even the new stadium, and that's the key.
Now lets sit and wait to see how much of atkinsons transfer fee is given over to reinvest into the remainder of the squad that is still needed, with two defensive players sold, already this window. Will we have to go through the pain the squad suffered last season when defensive replacements/cover wasn't forthcoming.
It's coming to the point where, the new board, has to decide do they want success on the pitch, where investment in playing staff will be paramount, or are they after a global name, Oxford, and the club comes second.
The groundhog scenario we have had for the past two to three years, does not make for a squad capable of seriously challenging the play offs, as the last two years has shown.
Hopefully, the new fans group will begin to seek answers, that have remained un answered under owner after owner, regarding the ground, genuine direction of the club etc, because if the model that we adopted some years ago of selling off our top players, is meant to part of the same strategy of getting promotion to the championship, then it clearly isn't working.

The sale of Atkinson was always going to happen, yes it's a shame but that's where we are, we have to sell at least one player a year it seems. At least it's happened early and we can now plan without him.

Please let's stop all this bitching on here, and let's all support our team not constantly snipe at each other.

At least we still have our beloved team to support. COYY!
That's two players gone though.

Not really, we ARE Brentford, just a division behind them. It's how we got into league one and it's how we'll get into the championship.
What, you really believe we are equal to a club in the Premiership, about to start their opening game of the new season at home to Arsenal, in a brand new stadium?
That's pure fantasy, not even in the order of scotchy, and completely disrespectful to Brentford.

Lee and Barker, championship level ? You do realise there’s another 61 days left in the transfer window ?
Looking at the business done so far, and the potential CB partnerships mentioned above, how do you think business will go then ?In elechi and McNally you have two players nowhere near ready for league 1 football. The other of long and mous, partners a full back with a player, who wouldn't have a contract at 99% of other clubs, due to age and injuries.

If you tried reading posts every now and again you will @derek said that we were like Brentford, BUT a league below. So not equal to them, but delivering the same trading model.

You have absolutely no idea if McNally or Elechi are ready for league 1 football! You said last season that Jack Stevens wasn't ready. You said Rob Atkinson wasn't ready. A couple of years back you said that Gavin Whyte wasn't ready. You simply haven't got a clue!!!

Surely the last 2 years has shown the exact opposite?

Granted Blackpool dispatched us fairly comfortably, but I don't think we can have many complaints as for my money they were comfortably the third best team in the league this past season. But last year, we were extremely close and just a couple of rookie mistakes at Wembley away from the Championship. We certainly 'seriously challenged', and in both cases were among the top 6 sides in the league in both seasons.

To describe Lee as Championship and Bodin as L1 is entirely subjective, and to my mind more than a little daft.

Boyle a goal scoring centre half. 6 goals last season but looks like a few injury problems as only played 29 games.
