I'm glad that for the first time since he's taken the helm, KR hasn't named his targets in public (unless I've missed it) and stated that they're about to sign for us. In the past he's been all too eager to tell us which players fit the bill and yet fail to get them signed to the club.

All we have had this transfer window is rumours from various twitter feeds which is alright with me and bodes well that we can have discussions with players about coming in without it being played out too openly in the press.

McGuane and Williams are good initial signings, I'm not convinced that the rumoured Harrison signing would be a good one as he's on big money at Pompey (or was - don't know if he's been offered a lower deal by them) and his goalscoring record at League 1 level is poor for a striker being 1 in 5.

If Atkinson goes for £2m with 20% sell on fee, that's good business in the current climate.

Out of nowhere Billy Bodin. Nobody called that one!

I did @Jolteon but I admit in a manner that wouldn't attract any unnecessary noise.

I am itk.

Naming a player who nobody else has named first, whose name hasn’t appeared anywhere in the press, and not covering every angle so that whether they do or don’t sign you get to claim you were right somehow?

You’ll never make it in the ITK game like that.
Not to mention he actually bloody signed. Hopeless.
Cracking player, who even played very well in the Championship for Preston before the injuries set him back.

He claims to be fully fit now, but even if he suffers with injuries again he's only on a 1 year contract which makes it a worthwhile signing IMO.

Also played alongside Taylor before!
I'll claim to be fully fit if it gets me an OUFC contract for a year, can't put much stock in that.

Born and raised in Swindon. Eugh.

Had a glance at the Rovers forum and they were really hoping he was going to resign for them.

A good player back in the day but his recent injury record is atrocious. Hopefully it works out, but not one to get excited about. We might as well have just kept Rob Hall!
Son of Swindon leg-end Paul Bodin, who was also a Welsh international

BRB going to go read every single message you've ever posted to try and find hidden player names.

26 games in the last three years, done his ACL twice in his career. The good news is that, worst case scenario, @Paul Cannell has someone to clean the Bentley.

I doubt it. I'm already paying for Mousinho.

Least impressive signing since Ricky Holmes. We have one wide defender, 3 usable central defenders one of which we might fob off for over a million. We already have Taylor, Agyei and 1 knackered ex-striker. What's the point of another one?

He can play left or right midfield/winger, central midfield and the 10 role as well as up top so versatility would be part of it.

Ha - I'm going to start writing phrases like - 'It's all a bit of a mess, I don't know who we're going to sign but we'd better get on with it'. from now on :)

You clearly don’t know anything about the player, do you? Fans from all of his previous clubs are saying how good he is, but Paul Cannell doesn’t rate him - despite never seeing him play. Gotcha

That's all well and good, but it's no use if he can't stay fit, and 44 appearances in three and a half seasons doesn't fill me with confidence that he will be able to.

Holmes, Thorne, Hall, Winnall, now Bodin. When will Robbo learn?

Dry those hot little tears darling.
What an odd thing to say. You seem very negative about us signing a player that you clearly know nothing about? He’s scored 30 goals in 100 games at our level, and is highly rated at both Bristol Rovers and Preston. I don’t understand why certain people are so negative, by default? Must be boring.

He's a good player, no doubt about it, but he's very injury prone, and has played very few games in over 3 seasons, and we've been stung before, more than once, and given our history with exactly these kind of signings, you can't really blame people for being worried that we've signed another crock.

Robbo needs to learn that these kinds of players are available to clubs like us in league one for a reason, because they've had too many serious injuries, and can't stay fit, otherwise they'd be playing at a higher level, and we wouldn't be able to get them.

I love it when the fan base turn in to sport scientists! A drop in standard coincides with a drop in intensity. Relax - trust that the experts at the club are well aware of the injury and have a good idea of what they can get from the player over a year. The contract length says a lot, it’s relatively risk free, I doubt he’s on mega money and it seems a good move for both parties. It’s another strong option up top and by all accounts he seems to be admired everywhere he’s been. I highly suspect he has not been brought in to play week in, week out with that fitness record and he will need managing. So it’s just as well it’s a squad game, isn’t it?

It’s where we are - people pine for championship players and you’ve got one… But as you would expect, it’s a trade off. If he was perfect, he’d still be at Preston. He’s got a point to prove and he’s got a year to do it. Good luck to him, positive addition.

By process of elimination we should able to work out who could sign next.

We've got Matty Taylor CF, Billy Bodin LW, interested in Ellis Harrison CF....... Who played right wing for Bristol Rovers around 2015 to 17????
Perhaps Matty is working in the recruitment department in his spare time

Fair point, but we've now got TWO strikers with awful injury records, who will BOTH need "managing" throughout the season, which is ridiculous

I'm not disagreeing with that and I hope we did very thorough medical tests. His versatility (and being good for Bristol Rovers at them anyway) will be one of the reasons though.
