I'm feeling strangely serene after that ' coup de grace ' to the play offs. We haven't been good enough this season and there are a variety of reasons this has been the case .
We were not good enough to go up , and don't deserve to.
Now , however , we have 7 matches to blood a few younger players and recruitment can start now in earnest for next seasons League 1 promotion push with us all back in the Stadium( and another Stadium in the pipeline).

A lot of our players seem decent but little squad depth (pre-season obsession with signing wingers), leaving us playing a right footed midfielder at left back and no one of McGuanes calibre to replace him. Some of the squad are simply not good enough and Grayson seems a liability. I also get the impression that KR puts his hand in a hat to see which formation and players he uses each match - simply not a good enough approach. I still feel that Fazackerley's departure is sorely missed especially in the defensive strategy and positioning.
The longer McGuane has been away, the better player he seems to have been. Don’t really remember him being that influential. Our opponents all seem to have players with drive and determination that ours don’t

Nobody could have guessed.
Does that make my opinion less valid? I'm sorry if my living far away (until last summer) and not having the money to afford to go to games makes my opinion less important. I listened to every game on RadOx, I watched all the extended highlights, I haven't missed a game this season thanks to ifollow being available. I do what I can to support my team. I'm sorry I didn't realise that not *actually* being there means my opinion is less valid. Good to know.

I agree that we weren't brilliant then, and probably played better for big chunks at the beginning of the season when we couldn't buy a win. But over a season you tend to get balance this out. Last year we out performed on our budget by 4 or 5 places, this year we could under perform by a similar amount.

Hardly reason to panic in my view, but I get that others will think differently.
Even with your insidiously optimistic view this stretches things. Are you really happy for the team to continue in this vein of mid table crap? 3 years of KR claiming that we "dominated", "were the better team", etc etc He even started once to spout statistics related to chances and attempts on goal as being evidence of how good we were.

We want to see the team winning, going up, collecting trophy's not all this post match crap we get now.

Last year you can't really judge on too much, the Ruffles header against shrewsbury got us in to the play offs if the season had been halted the game before we would of missed out.

It depends what the board see as progress, if they are happy at staying in league 1 then he will remain, their job has been made alot easier since no fans are in the ground and people can't voice their opinion by their mouth and their feet..

I feel like it's become a bit stale and we are going backwards on the pitch, you couldn't say big bids will come in for any of our players this transfer window which ultimately the club need to cash in to survive. They also have to take in to account that when fans may return the club still needs to be seen of going in the right direction to attract more day trippers.

You're a Trojan.

I will have a vacancy when Kelly leaves for a young person to wash my Bentley soon. Perhaps you should consider it, learning is always something.

Terrible result.😔

Sorry to say it, but we're too far adrift now, and all the teams above us have at least one game in hand, so I have to reluctantly admit, I think the season is over.

We need to start planning for next season NOW, get a head start, and identify targets, who are fit, solid players, capable of cutting the mustard at this level, and get our business done early, and no more faffing around for the whole summer, chasing unrealistic targets, and putting all our eggs in one basket, before panic buying a load of shite at the last minute!

AND NO MORE CROCKS OR HAS BEENS!!!!!!!

In the meantime, promote a few of the younger, genuine prospects to the first team squad for the rest of the season, and see what they've got.

He was the one player who could drive us forward and make things happen and no one has come near to replicating that in the middle of the pitch since he was injured. The fact that Atkinson is so good at driving us forward with the ball at his feet just highlights it even more. We get overrun in the middle most games, Robinson HAS to strengthen that area.

But isn’t that totally the point?

If we have no real ambition or money to progress as we stand, it’s time for a change isn’t it?
Managers should be sacked for under achievement, not for broadly achieving what is expected. Bottom 6 then yes sack KR, mid table not great but not worthy of the sack. The stadium issue paying massive rent really impacts the playing budget.

My youth does not dictate my ability to form an opinion. I am perfectly confident in what I've said and happy to defend it against whatever cynicism comes my way. The patronisation and gatekeeping that comes from the "elite" fans of OUFC is perhaps a reason why the club's average fan age is on the higher end. I've said what I believe, you disagree, which is perfectly fine. However looking down on me for my age and/or ability as a fan to attend games is bizarre to me. If I've misunderstood your posts, feel free to correct me and I apologise if so, but the tone and what you've written does give off a bad vibe to me. We're all fans of OUFC, doesn't matter whether you've attended 1000 games or 10, we're all the same.

We won 5 games in a row before Covid hit so it was a bit more than just Ruffels header. We were the form team at the right time, Rotherham were tumbling as were Wycombe. We'd have very likely made the play offs and were one of the challengers to get automatic promotion so that is just absolute rubbish. KR has his faults but just dismissing last season as irrelevant just makes your argument hold no weight.

We won 5 games in a row that took us from mid table to 3rd you mean. Who knows where we would of finished it's all guess work. Karl has not achieved anything in 3 years we are still in the same position from where he took over.

My view is we're exactly where we deserve to be, which is in mid table obscurity. Yes we had a poor start which didn't help but could anyone on here seriously see us challenging if we did miraculously get in to the play offs? I for one couldn't face another finish like last season.

I do like KR in many aspects but I'm just not sure how good an actual manager he is, as I'm afraid our 'first' team have massively under performed this season and a large part comes down to his tactics, poor recruitment and man management. Yes I will admit injuries haven't helped either but our squad has been shockingly exposed at times as inadequate, and to have to plug the gaps as he has tried just hasn't been good enough. All this talk of taking the handbrake off was waffle and lasted one game anyway, and a decent half here and there has not been sufficient and has shown up where we are short.

Lets start the planning for next season, do what we never do and get players in early (maybe look at the top performing League 2 players etc) and give Elechi, LCP and other youngsters a chance.

All in all it's been quite a let down of a season.😕

Oh Mr Cannell, can I wash your Bentley? It would be such an honour to scrub the wheels of OUFC’s biggest bellend. Maybe then new supporters would be allowed to have an opinion, with your permission of course.
