Holy mackerel.

And here was I, being led to believe it was them pesky foreigners what likes a last minute deal.

Farage is going to s**t his chinos.

Maybe if he'd attended a few of those pesky EU fishing meetings (y"know...the ones he was supposed to be representing us plucky Brits at), he wouldn't now be in a position of having to scrape dung from his flannels.

Still...he's always got the Nigel Farage memorial lorry park to immortalise his achievements. Nobody can take that away from him (when it's finished, that is).

It is international law that coastal states retain certain rights over their territorial waters.
It applies to the water, seabed and air above and must allow innocent passage that is, peaceful transit not prejudicial to the good order or security of the coastal stateβ€”for merchant vessels of other nations.

The right of innocent passage does not apply to submerged submarines or to aircraft, nor does it include a right to fish.

All we want to do is control fishing rights in our waters on our terms, even if that is to contract them out to other nations.

The EU want us locked in for 8 years and we don`t want that.

Some kind of fudge of 3 years might be agreeable...... or not.

Well...fillet my Dover Sole. Cod this be the deal clincher?

Jigger me, we got it pretty close again it seems.
Seems its 5 years and a bit of flex on quota`s.

Amazingly Sir Keir "declined" to back calls for an extension due to the current circumstances............. :ROFLMAO:

Whats this???

Is Kier right, or are you now backing an extension too?

Has your ticking clock suddenly fallen silent?[emoji848]

It is Christmas I guess...and miracles can happen!

Unfortunately the mass approval and start of the Oxford vaccine has been delayed (otherwise we would have got that news last Friday or Saturday at the same time as the Tier 4 announcement).
Looks like the hope is to announce a Brexit deal at the same time as the announcement of a national lockdown.
Nothing like good government, eh?

Whether the reduction is 60% or 6%, the French will still take as much fish as they want.

What a shame if we can't restore and regenerate thousands of square miles of ocean. Our chance to take the lead in this "green industrial revolution" they're banging on about.

But there are no plans to regenerate it, we just want to make it "ours" - even if we don't have a big enough fleet to fish it (even allowing for the fact that the majority of "UK" trawlers are foreign owned anyway) nor an internal market for it (we export much of it to Europe). Sovereign fish like blue passports....

Haven't checked how pucker this graphic is, but WTH:

No there aren't - the first step towards regenerating something though is to own it. The voters would have to take the next step by voting for a party which makes the right environmental pledges.

Also it's probably for the best for the ecosystem that we don't have the fleet to pillage it immediately.

But unless you are voting Green then none of them will do much bar enable pillaging.

Not to mention that it needs a common approach that goes across boundaries. Fish and marine life are no respecters of man-made boundaries I'll have you know!

Now, if only we could take a collaborative approach to this with all our near neighbours with adjoining territorial waters.........oh.

Love this comment today in the news about the various countries having their own response to banning travel from UK
"But EU member states are free to set their own rules on border controls and may continue with their own policies."
So as they are proving, another Brexit plank less than stable.

That the main political parties are not making good enough environmental promises is our own fault. If they allow pillaging then it's their head on the block. No blaming EU anymore.

I've seen this quite a lot from people with FBPE in their twitter names.
As if to say that silly old Farage was wrong and the UK could close the borders at any time and didn't need Brexit to do it.
Closing a border to restrict travel in a pandemic is a completely different kettle of fish to the general principle of freedom of movement of EU citizens to work and live anywhere within the EU.

The Tories (primarily) will have to find a new scapegoat for all their failures and broken promises...

We (and the government) will get the kind of Environment we are prepared to pay for. IF excuses are made to not take the climate crisis seriously because it is "a bit too expensive" and "we're a bit strapped right now" then we will all have to live with the consequences.

The good news is that greening the economy is not as expensive as some would have you believe and nowhere near as expensive as doing nothing. I guess it will all depend on who is invested in it and stands to get rich on the back of it. If it is BoJo and chums...then green away folks!!
