International News Black Lives Matter

Pathetic to boo from the selected Millwall fans who chose to. It's not hurting you so leave those who wish to show their support for BLM to it.

I do think the 'taking the knee' should stop though. Like the clapping for the NHS, as a one-off performative gesture, it has some impact. Every player around the country all taking part in a single moment of silence in solidarity. The first instance of it had some power in the same way a sobering two minute's silence on Remembrance Day can have. What is making it less effective is doing it every game. How is it dismantling systemic racism? Any racist can continue to take a knee and then spout hatred elsewhere.

I heard instances during the NHS 'clap for our carers' of some neighbours shopping those who weren't on their doorstep at 8pm on Thursdays and it was rightfully brought to a close by the person who thought of the idea. I feel we're now at that stage with the 'taking the knee' where people are now fearful of stopping it because they'll face a reprisal for looking like they're arguing against the spirit of it.

I realise you like to be a little different in your views - perhaps a little controversial? - but what, exactly, is 'brave' about their actions? Who are they making a point to?
Brave - they are risking their season tickets, careers, police questioning, media humiliation by taking their own personal stand.

Making a point - to society and the country as a whole. We're talking about it, it will be all over the papers and the news channels for the next 18 hours.

A lot of people are failing to differentiate between (i) the concept of racism with (ii) the BLM political movement.

And yes, I think you've characterized me correctly.

During the Thursday night clapping, one nurse at a hospital local to here suggested it was a toothless idea, showing support but offering nothing substantial to the profession (like funding or volunteering). A lot of other nurses agreed.

The response of some dimwits around here was to 'withdraw their support for nurses' as a result.
In Berlin there was a newspaper article where a nurse from the biggest hospital in Berlin said "You can stick your applause up your a*se!"
After the first one!
Tough crowd!

The sad fact is that if you'd have asked football fans which club would first disrespect an anti-racism campaign then the vast majority would have said Millwall.

It's a nasty little club, with nasty racist fans. I expect nothing less, but I do expect a lot more from our fans who not only defend it but think that these pathetic little men are somehow brave.

"them vs us"

Well done on reinforcing the view that you are indeed racist!!

I am going to jump in here. First of all, I aways define as racial prejudice. If someone is demeaning or looking at someone different or negatively because of the colour of their skin.

I am firmly against racial, cultural, religious or sexual prejudice. In my eyes I see all as the same, irrespective of colour.

But I have seen derogatory comments around the world, including British against Eastern Europeans. And I do agree with Danny, racism or racial prejudice or derogatory remarks occurs around the world.

It happens in America against Mexicans as well and Asians.
I have seen in Singapore, Chinese against Bangladeshi and Filipinos.
In HK, you see it against Mainland Chinese.
I have seen it in the workplace where a Muslim was called a "suicide bomber".

In the end, we are all God's children, irrespective of colour or sex.

I see Dion Dublin says those that oppose Black Lives Matter are racist. Bit surprised by comments like that to be honest
Indeed it was a stupid comment. I oppose the BLM political movement and if Dion thinks I'm racist. Then I don't really give a crap. They want to refund the police. They attacked the police in London tries to burn the cenotaph flag and committed acts of vandalism throughout the country. You could equally argue that those who support BLM are vandals and criminals.

I'm all for equality and football has a very high percentage of black players despite making up 2% of the population. Equality in football would be reducing the number of black players to increase the number of Chinese Indian other underrepresented groups. I'm not sure that is what I they want.
