Transfer News January Changes

We have a constant obsession with asking to see players who have already played for us return, despite the fact that they have moved on and/or snubbed us for a new opportunity.

Also, I can't see how people are not seeing what Agyei can bring to this team. He's not being used properly - that's a Karl problem and not a player problem. We need pace and he's one of the only players who can provide it.

Agreed that Hanson and Hall have to go. Mous should be deregistered and Shodipo can go home. Otherwise I don't see why Eastwood has to go in Jan (he needs a long break and would not be redundant as cover for Stevens) and Sykes can be useful when necessary.

This is a management problem, not really a personnel problem.
Yes; this. I can’t see this obsession with bringing ex-players back; they’re invariably a disappointment.
That it’s a management problem will be shown in January when KR fails to improve the squad claiming, I’m sure, that he “lost out” on his main targets.

Recruitment is going to a be a nightmare regardless of when we do it.

With the squad dropping to 20 next season we will be unable to carry players such as Hanson, Hall and to a lesser extent, Napa. If players will only play a limited role and are >21 then we can't afford a space for them.

Where Oxford should be looking (and I know other Championship/League One club are also) is the PL2 to be picking out players ready for the step into full time mens football (such as Holland, Browne, Brannagan, Ledson etc etc...). They won't contribute to the cap (assuming they are 21 or under) - already have the ability to play here (oh yeah, brexit will most probably stop us from recruiting within Europe) and can be sold the dream of moving up the pyramid after 18months....18months on ~125kp/a with us, then double/triple it to move to the Champ (or possibly to Scotland!). Everyone's a winner.

Said it in the summer and will now will be more apparent, if you don't have some clever processes in place, finding talent, negotiation etc then you will be left behind. Club at our level are/have already become smart

Stop mentioning previous players!!!! What about Dunkley, Ledson, Baldock? They could do a job. Also, why would you get rid of Sykes, one of our most promising young players?

YO
Whatever happens we should probably have a plan beyond, “Just try to get Marcus Browne on loan again?! 🤷🏻‍♂️
You're right and I think what I actually mean is "a player" to come in and have the same kind of positive impact on the squad. It is easy to think that because he and Holland have done it before that a) - they could do exactly the same again, and b) they would even be interested. We (and they) need to move on!

Anyway, I'm no judge of loan player. I can remember the first time Lundstram came on for us and attempted a 70yd diagonal with almost his first touch (it seemed) and my initial reaction was "we'll have none of that hollywood Premiership nonsense here"!

I think a lot of us called that when EPPP was voted in but the squad and salary caps have certainly been the final nail in that coffin.

Going to be a crapton of players turfed out at 22, hope the PFA has a safety net for them. Will be some seriously talented part timers in non league.

Think you said it 'promising" doesn't cut it after a full season when he seemed to be progressing but honestly he was supposed to be better than Whyte..he should be scoring and making more goals imo ...flatters to deceive.

Out
  • Hall - Has to go, complete waste of wage and slot in our team, adds nothing
  • Hanson - As above
  • Mous - As others have said, move to a staff contract or at least remove from our registered squad
  • Kelly - Still not convinced by him regardless of being played out of position in the CDM role
  • Shodipo - Not a player for a relegation scrap

Keep (Possibly only until the summer)
  • Eastwood - Going to be hard to shift him while also getting a replacement in Jan, but certainly next summer I think it's best for all if he leaves.
  • Sykes - Actually believe he would blossom under different management, KRs comments on him make it clear he's not a fan and this isn't the 1st time.
  • Clare - See how he performs at right wing on a consistent basis. So long as he never steps foot at RB ever again
In
  • Attacking LB or RB - Absolute necessity that we have one of these in order to break teams down
  • Box to Box Midfielder - a Cam Brannagan type player
  • CB - Goes without saying
  • RW or/and LW - Our current crop aren't much good

Struggling to see any manager thinking I fancy Hall or Hanson, not going to be on anyone’s shopping list so I reckon we are stuck till their contracts run out.

Someone might take a punt on Hall but if Hanson contract is as big as we were told when he signed i agree its a big sell. Suspect the club would have to contribute to wage for the remainder of his deal and the question then is it better value to keep.

So you wouldn’t take back George Baldock?! Not sure if you know what you’re talking about there.

Certain ex players make sense because: We know they can perform, they won’t need as much time to settle, they’re more likely to come as they know and like the club.

Browne was an ex player when he came back for his second spell. Are you saying that was a mistake?

Sounded like KR was saying there were different ways to create squad space in Jan. Can a player be dropped from the squad list - but contractually remain on payroll (garden leave) ?

Those players aren’t coming back! They are too good for us now! Move on!

Notice today a certain mr Robinson has said the club are in need of a CB... makes you wonder why he wasn’t thinking that way a few weeks before the deadline..

Never mind. Let’s hope nobody goes near Mous in the odd 10 mins he plays for us between now and January..
Because he was still frothing at the mouth over all of the wingers he could sign

Really pleased Jack was given an opportunity last night. Overall I think this will be a season of transition; this is what I would like to see emerge. The continuing development of Elechi, Spasov, Lofthouse gradually replacing Mousinho, Napa, Hanson, Hall towards being full squad players next year, supplemented by loan players. I still believe the longer contracts signed by Cam and Matty were the best piece of business over last close season. I think we will scrap for our League One place this year, hopefully towards a more forward looking squad reducing the ‘need’ for last minute signings who need to get over having missed a meaningful pre-season and will allow Karl to indulge his enthusiasm for knackered ‘marquee’ signings without reducing the squad too much. Onwards and upwards.
