It wasn’t a convincing win so guess I was wrong
but it was a convincing performance.

Man of the match Robinson. For his substitutions. Excellent. He spotted who the weak links were and took quick action.

If I was a Pompey fan I’d want Jackett out. They have a lot of strength and power in their squad but very little in the way of plan B.

McGuane should start on Saturday, he’s beginning to win me over.

Gorrin was brilliant and I still can’t help chuckling at the poster who wanted to rest him for Swindon. We would have lost two or three without him on the pitch.

The game has changed with centre backs encouraged to use the ball far more these days, but Atkinson reminds me a lot of Matty Elliott. It's not so much the way he plays the ball from the back, but that he passes and then continues the run.

He needs to get more games under his belt, and possibly bulk out a touch, but Atkinson will play at a much higher level before long.
He’s going to become a very good defender this season, considering it’s his first season as a full time professional, he will make mistakes and he will learn from those mistakes. He has quite a bit of pace and skill so his acquisition was a good one.

Good performance from the lads. Very impressed with Atkinson, keeps that up we have got a gem, especially with his runs forward and skills on the ball as well as his defensive side, tonight was a big test for him against a team that have been scoring for fun. Man of Match, Gorrin, outstanding.

overall it was a good performance where I bit my nails because of nerves our defence and Easty coped.

Agreed on atkinson. People are going to have to accept the rough with the smooth with him this season whilst he learns and adapts to the level.

Definitely another improvement on some of the recent games! Players slotting into their natural positions and Gorrin back in obviously having a huge impact.

Hopefully the squad can take some confidence into the next game and we keep a clean sheet for a change. It’ll be interesting to see how the lack of crowd impacts things when Saturday comes.

A much much better performance tonight, all round.
Dan Agyei was outstanding playing that number 9 role. He held the ball up, brought the midfield and wide players into into play and was a good presence all night. We have to get him more minutes - especially with Winnall out for a while.

Gorrin too...class!

18months and Atkinson will be in the Championship. Great to see him do with us as he has done previously - not many teams would give him the freedom to carry out of defence as he does (obviously down to Gorrin)

Championship? Hopefully with us.

Not so much on the defensive side though. Not yet at least.
I may be wrong, but I don't remember Matty Elliott being beaten cleanly in the air in his own box, basically ever.
It was rather more ball comes in, big man heads it away, rinse and repeat for 90 minutes.......

But your post is a good excuse to watch this again!

When teams cotton on and adapt that provides space up the pitch.

Tactically that is significant.
