General "Injury prone", "sicknote", "risky signing"

Given the current situation, I thought it would be interesting to analyse the players that have been signed in recent years who have come with the tag "sicknote" or "injury prone".

At the current squad I would classify these as the following:

Winnall (signed as such)
Hall (signed as such during ongoing knee treatment)
Hanson (though I would say he has become so during his time with us)
Napa (home grown though)
Atkinson (being pushed too hard too young?)

In addition, the following players are no longer at the club, but have been recruited with known injury problems or who have developed such problems during or after their time with us.

Baptiste
Hoskins
Holmes
Wroe
Thorne
Ribeiro

I'm sure I have missed others. Especially in the "what's a medical" Kelvin Thomas days...

I understand the theory, I understand the "when he's fit he's the best player in the league" comments. But is this not another indictment of our recruitment process? I know injuries are part and parcel of the game and can strike in a second (see Forde and Brannigan). But I can no longer see the point of these signings...it's like someone has read Moneyball and is trying to apply it to get players on the cheap, but all this is doing is throwing plans into chaos (especially with the squad cap) and wasting money we don't have.

Have we ever (Langan aside) had a player with an injury history that has made a lasting impression? Or any impression at all? Is it time to now say "stop"? It is for me...

A big one to add to this list is Samir Carruthers.
He was meant to be KR's marquee signing in his first season as manager. He had been part of KR's successful period at MK Dons. Again, a capable player but one with a very bad injury record.
He managed a mere 10 appearances for us and is currently on Cambridge Utd's books but injured.

I don't recall Carruthers having a "very bad injury record" when he came to us. A knee injury at MK Dons that left him out for 2 or 3 months but nothing much beyond that. The problem was that he got a bad injury in his first few games with us, and then had a set back in his recovery. Who knows what would have happened without the injury, but hard to blame KR for this not working out.

Billy Hamilton and Bobby Mcdonald also had their fair share of knocks before signing. But in fairness, in those days the fitness test was a jog around the pitch and necking a pint in one!!!

After MKD he made his Sheffield Utd debut in January 2017 and had to be taken off injured after 15 minutes.
He was able to make only 14 appearances for them in a season and ahalf.

Yes good old CW letting us have him and Holmes. He knew what he was doing giving them season long loans here. He was aware he wouldn't get much game time out of them. KR then took gambles on them both. Neither came off and you would think he'd learned his lesson by now!! Although loans are not quite so bad as perm contracts.

If you're talking 1880s you're talking my language. I remember how, on our way to becoming Headington United, we signed Harry "Cruciate" Liggerment from Botley Wanderers.
No substitutes in them days so we were always playing with 10 men. That Arthur Turner made some right silly signings.

...or when our miserly chairman Robert Maxwell swatted the moths away from his wallet when parting with a paltry £40K for cheap option John Aldridge.
