Ex Player Alex Rodriguez Gorrin

That’ll be that then..

Robinson said;

Derick came on and scored a fantastic goal.

“We see that most days in training, we’ve (also) seen other parts of the game we know have to be better.

“We’ve always said Derick’s a work in progress at this club.

“He’s not for today, he’s got another year on his contract, this year is for bedding in and we still think he needs a loan to make those mistakes.

“But we know he’s got that prowess to score when it drops to that right foot.”

Let’s hope that if we are 1 down with 15-20 to go he has someone on the bench who’ll pop with a goal and who is also brilliant in training at everything and is ready this year and not next.
I agree that having him on the bench to come on to steal the odd late goal would be a positive, but I can also see the thinking that we need him to become more than just a five minute hero supersub, so getting a string of games together to increase his value to the side over 30-45-60-90 minutes is also a sensible development plan, so I dont think they are wrong in taking this decision.
Ideally we would have been able to keep him around in the 18 for games until the right loan was found, but this stupid squad limit system meant that KR had to choose between one or the other and, I suspect, having decided that a fit Hanson was a potentially useful body to have around to cover 2-3 positions then opted to leave DOY out to leave room for one more coming in.
In hindsight, with Hanson getting injured immediately, and one or two others not shining as we'd like, then dropping DOY has ended up as the wrong call, but I can see his thinking as to why he did it

Agree with that.
It seems clear that he was brought in for the future.
Getting game time and developing would seem a far better move than coming off the bench for 10 to 15 minutes when we need a goal from a development perspective

I think this is delusional from KR.

If we were spanking teams week in week out and our players were giving top performances then maybe I would listen, but lets be clear - we could have played all night last night and wouldn't have scored. Osei Yaw may have his weaknesses but so do the other 20 odd players in our squad, and on the whole we are very poor at the moment. The one stat that really matters is that he looks like he can (and does) score goals. You can play pretty patterns, focus on pass completion, ball retention, and other stats all you want but I don't want to be sat here at Xmas still watching us dominate the ball, not being able to score and giving away shocking goals.

I think the vast majority of our squad have shown that their game isn't anywhere near the required standard yet (post covid at least)

Not always.

Goals win games.
Goals save games.

Would you have minded him at Wembley scoring the winner off the bench even though he doesn’t quite have the all round game?

On that, who he’s being compared to?

What’s the expectation? This goes for DA as well. They are league one players for a reason .
Let’s just remember that.

Not always.
I agree - but sometimes?
We cant hit a barn door at present and currently have to score about 3 goals to win a game. I understand that KR will have a vision of how he wants his team to play and what the roles and responsibilities are within his system, but if I was Osei Yaw I would be livid that there are so few players at the club making an impact right now but being given an opportunity.

As Michael Appleton would often say "It isn't about making the right decisions. It's about making your decisions right".

If OY gets a beneficial loan to a club that can help progress him into the player we want him to be, history will view it as another success from our recruitment and development team.

Once Winnall is up to speed Osei would be 3rd choice at best assuming you discount Agyei (who can play there and wide). Winnall will only get up to speed playing games so KR had to make a hard decision, as plenty have said on here, we needed defensive cover, so signed on paper a potentially very good player in Jordan Obita. Signing JO potentially frees up Josh Ruffels for other positions. Also Matty Taylor wants to play as much as he can and we know he can score plenty once he properly gets going.

As you put it, our problem is defensive so having 4 centre forwards seems an overkill when we needed space for a defensive signing.

Whilst Winnall is ..."getting up to speed" would it not be wise to keep one of the few players who knows where the net is? SW has had a great goal scoring career but I fear he is on the downward slope as regards sharpness.

I've seen others say this about Agyei. How many times has KR played him as a central striker? I can possibly recall once, and not sure he looked comfortable.

I'm reliably informed that the coaching staff don't see him as a central striker but more an attacking midfielder/winger which is why he's played in those positions.
