Home Match Day Thread +++ 17/3/2018 OUFC v PETERBOUROUGH +++

And... Our game management was spot on. The first time this year I've happy that we've done some of the more naughty stuff we usually shy away from
Yup. Agreed. I thought it was our best all round performance of the season. We had great intensity, much better shape, Branagan looks a player and Dickie is more reliable than our other centre backs. Very 'lower league' - no frills - but that is what you need sometimes.
Play with that energy for a few more games and we will get to 52 points before Wigan and Blackburn away.
Big, but relief and, despite the cold, enjoyed seeing such a whole hearted performance.

If I'm honest 2-1 flattered Peterborough. Henry rattle post with a cracking half volley and Ricardinho missed a sitter.

That was very, very cold! Home now, wood burner fired up and thawing out:)

Massive win for all concerned, club, management, players and supporters. I’m particularly pleased for Faz, he got his tactics spot on today, diamond midfield formation surprised Evans and we were the better team first half, could have been 2 or 3 nil up. Second half more even but thought we saw out the game pretty well at the end.

Mousinho, Dickie, Kane, Brannigan, Ledson and Henry all did well. Cracking strike from Henry for his goal.

Just need to get to the 50 plus points mark and build for next season.

I recall when your team wasted time from the 1st minute of a game and were incredibly blatant about it. So politely, STFU

I remember that game against Boston 0-0 in about 2005.

I recall it because I use it as a benchmark for being the yardstick to judge all other matches by being one of the worst spectacles of. It was the single worst football match I have ever seen. Any neutral there would have walked out in disgust.

And people say trophy hunting should be banned [emoji85][emoji85].

Let’s not pretend we are world beaters after that. Our defence still looks frighteningly porous, we ran out of puff in the second half and were clinging on at times.

But there were plenty of reasons to be positive. Foremost for me was the application, tenacity and battle the team showed. Today was the first time I felt like the team fully appreciated the scale of the mess this form slump has left us in. From the first minute we looked up for the fight - and that was critical. From little things like kicking the ball away to delay their set plays, midfielders firing into tackles and hunting in packs (so refreshing after some of our timid midfield displays this season) and a real attempt made to attack with purpose rather than meander about retaining possession whilst not going anywhere meaningful.

An ugly performance, and still masses for the new man to sort out. But that (moderately unexpected) win buys us some vital time and distance from the drop zone for the incoming manager to do the aforementioned sorting.

Dickie was exceptional today. Goal aside, they have a superb attacking group and for a young lad he did a hell of a job. Won everything in the air, didn’t let Bogle bully him around when he came on, covered for Mousinho’s traditional edge-of-the-penalty-area cock-ups. He looks better with each passing game

Drive back home this evening flew by! How sweet it is to go home after a win. Shame about the defence switching off for their short corner, quickly taken but, fair do's, the boys managed the game and got the result.

Can anyone tell me though why, whenever Thomas and Obika play together, one or the other or both get injured?

Really enjoyed that, wholehearted performance that was much better than last week against the Wombles. Thought Henry (cracking goal) and Smith-Brown had their best games for the club to date. Pleasing that we played with two up front and that Henry got to start, far more intent with the starting formation.

So are short corners the future?

I wish we had a striker like Marriott. Horrible little s**t to play against, consistently gets his shots away, he like a little Danny Hylton
Yes good comparison, I don’t know if he’s a great player as such but he did well by just being more alert, energetic, and fired up than everyone else

When he stayed on side he caused us massive issues. Luckily he had the inability to do that today. He's definitely a striker brimming with confidence you can see that with how he played today.
