We don’t know his son’s symptoms, he paid for the test himself because he just wanted to double check.

Do you really think that everyone plus everyone who lives in the same household who might have a cold (not Covid symptoms) would self isolate or even take a test?

Yes they should or at the least self isolate.

EFL Trophy game on Tuesday has to be in doubt doesn't it.

How long does it take for the virus to show up on a test?
Well that’s the problem it can incubate for 14 days so if your self isolating because you are a contact but have no symptons And have a negative test you still have to isolate for 14 days. No point in a test unless you have symptons.

It seems bizarre that Crewe wanted to play knowing They had a positive player.
This is why I’m kind of reluctant to totally condemn Crewe for this whole incident until we know the full facts. There must be more to it. There’s surely more to it than they knew they had a COVID positive player, didn’t care and wanted to play on anyway, right? Like, they haven’t been living under a rock for the last 9 months, there’s surely no way they would have been that reckless / dismissive of the dangers of the virus?

Can be useful if you have positive result?

Ryan Wintle ordered a coronavirus test, in the anticipation that he might have coronavirus.

He needs to isolate until the result is known, regardless of symptoms.

That is absolutely black and white.

He ordered a coronavirus test because his son was unwell (we’re not sure of his son’s symptoms) and was worried, rightly so, probably because another Crewe player was unwell earlier in the week (game against Newcastle, not sure if he had a test and if so, whether it was positive or not), so not in anticipation that he (player) had coronavirus, but I agree with you, he (player) should have self isolated once he’d taken the test and until he knew the results of the test, not travelled/informed his club etc as he has increased the risk of transmitting the virus further e.g. team mates, hotel staff, hotel guests, Oxford players, staff and media etc. Oh and a 1000 supporters if we’d been there!

Where would this have left today’s fixture though?

It's a bit disheartening - even on this thread.

If you have symptoms or someone you live with has symptoms (not just a sniffle, actual symptoms) or you have a test and have not had the result - yes, you have to self isolate. No matter how inconvenient it is. Because if you don't, then the numbers will increase and gradually gradually step by step restrictions will have to be reimposed until we are ALL back in some version of full lock down. And we will be back where we started - but worse, because the furlough money is spent.

I know people don't *want* this to carry on - but the way to stop it isn't to pretend it isn't happening or to try to creatively bypass the precautions - it is to be sensible, wear a mask when out and about, wash your hands, don't be a pillock and if you feel poorly, stay at home. That way, it might end a bit quicker and *then* we can get back to normal.

Plausibly still played if Wintle had announced he had been tested and isolated himself per obligations, and Crewe still had enough players who had not been in contact with Wintle. Plausibly still postponed if he did not / they did not, but without the need for deep cleaning another team's ground, and without the need to require two whole squads to test, had it been correctly managed on day dot.

(Once again, his son's symptoms are an absolute irrelevance, Wintle ordered a test and must be bound by the responsibilities that entails).

If a member of your household has symptoms are you not supposed to self-isolate??

Incidentally I did this last weekend. My wife had a stinker of a cold and being a key worker got tested to make sure that the cough she had with it wasn’t more sinister.

We checked the rules and after her test on the Friday we self isolated until her negative result came through on Sunday.

That was our understanding of self isolating. The Crewe player should have followed those protocols.

As Crewe didn't want a blanket test I wonder when Crewe knew he had taken a private one
