Maddison yes please. Dont care if he is a dick he is a fantastic player. Maybe someone like henry can leave to make room for him.

I don't get this thing with Henry (unless I'm being whooshed), he has been an instrumental part of our team since KR got here. Look at his goals and assists record considering he is a midfielder. He is also decent defensively also.

67 goals/assists in 145 games for us so close to a goal every other game.

I've done a bit of digging around on Maddison, as from a quick glance at his Wikipedia (and being generally aware of his reputation in League 1 the last few years) it seems absolutely ludicrous that he's still without a club.

I'd say he carries a bit more than 'a little baggage'. Have a read of this, from the Peterborough Telegraph, in January of this year. Bearing in mind this was a player with 9 league goals at the time and instrumental in a Posh team with probably the best attacking output in the league, his manager was saying he, "won’t consider [Maddison] for selection even if he stays. He’s fed up of the circus act that surrounds his best player." That suggests to me something seriously wrong, beyond just 'questions over his attitude'.

And anyway, why are we talking about getting another technical attacking midfielder in when we still don't have a full back line!

He’s our best player surely

Some time away from the starting line up could be the best thing for him.

Or possibly the worst.

Sometimes you have to play yourself into form, and whilst Henry has not looked himself this season the same can be said about half the team. Maybe he needs to be through on goal and bury it in order to rid the demons. Or knock one across for Taylor to tap in. People react differently to difficult times, and I'd hope that Henry is given the chance to get back to the player we know.

But on a similar subject, wasn't it a year or so ago when people were saying that Robinson didn't rate Henry? Name not on the whiteboard etc? Just looking at his stats and he's been pretty much ever present since KR arrived. Maybe he's too busy hating Agyei these days to worry about James!!

Henry is a slow starter and a rhythm player.
In the last couple of seasons he has started slowly and so has the team. It was exactly the same last season. I remember after the away Fleetwood game last season coming away from the ground and myself and my mate both thought he was done!! Get rid we both thought. One or two games later he clicked and so did the team.
He does seem a bit more laboured than usual though. I suppose another year on you can expect that up to a point. Confidence looks shot as well at the moment but he's not alone there. Lets give him another month to see if the previous couple of seasons pan out the same this time. But it is frustrating, even I have been shouting at him through the telly a couple of times!!

Weird too that he technically got 2 assists in our three playoff games. Hadn't realised til looking at that. I know that doesn't really tell the full story of the assists but it's kind of Henry in a nutshell that even when well off his best he still manages to assist two of our three playoff goals.

My thoughts exactly !!!!!

My view is if we can sign Madison then we must. You can bet your bottom dollar that if we don’t then someone else will and he will get them promotion. Yes he would come with baggage but that would be known before he signed. I think that it’s a risk worth taking if we are serious about promotion.

You can accuse Peterborough and their chairman of many things, but lacking ambition is not one of them. They actively got rid of Maddison in the middle of their promotion push last season because he was so disruptive behind the scenes. I honestly think that tells you all you need to know.

Maddison was pushing for a move away having attracted interest the previous summer. Peterborough refused to sell below their asking price but then ended up with a player that virtually went on strike, so they sent him out on loan.

But then covid hits, Maddison finds himself out of contract and with a shitty name in football, and few teams willing to take a chance on him. He turns 27 this week and knows that unless he's picked up soon, his career at any decent level is pretty much gone.

That might be enough for him to get a grip and knuckle down for any club taking a gamble, and Robinson might just be the one to get him to do that. We are missing big characters and I'd be tempted to give him a chance, but won't lose any sleep if we miss out. He offers far more than Garbutt would have done, and won't be in any position to demand big wages.

Adelakun, someone we were "heavily linked" with on here, has gone to Hull. Shame as he is exactly what we were crying out for, pace and power.

Still, am sure we have some incredible signings waiting to be unveiled in the next few weeks.....

He's a right sided winger though isn't he?

To answer my own question, of 183 appearances, he has only played 24 times on the left according to Transfermarkt. So unless we were losing somebody on right side, then it would have been a waste of a squad place as we need a left sided player, not somebody who can fill in as the games have already shown this doesn't really work.

Low basic with an appearance and performance related pay type of contract would be the order of the day then.

We’ve taken too many gambles already this window, with too many “rough diamonds” “ones for the future“ and unfit players, and can’t afford to take another gamble on Maddison, who sounds like he’d not only come with a lot of potentially disruptive baggage, but would also not be match fit.

When will we learn, we need players who are mentally and physically up to the job NOW, not after weeks of molly coddling and tummy tickling.

A couple of gambles is fine, but our squad is desperate need of some tried and tested pros

Yes, about that...

Which would almost certainly see him sign for someone else.

(Not saying you're wrong mind)

Is Maddison a gamble though?

He's been playing games in preseason so is match fit. Would likely only sign a one year contract and is class for this league.

Reminds me of Maguire with his attitude and he turned out alright for us.

I reckon we need someone with a bit of the old ‘tude to set off a few fireworks and wake our boys up a bit.
